I did a search but different posts are saying different recommendations. I have a 2014 Prius with 103k miles. I got the car with 21k miles and the car has been pretty much trouble free since then besides a dead 12v. I did change the tranny fluid at 30k. From my research, I should get the EGR intake cleaned. Do I need to do the spark plugs at 110k? What about the head gasket? This car has been so trouble free that I want to keep her alive as long as possible. Was I supposed to change the tranny fluid again at 90k? Apparently I was under the impression that it was recommended to change the 0-20w Toyota oil every 10k, but now I'm seeing that I should have been doing it at 5k
If you're going to spend the trouble to remove the windshield cowl, you should tackle all the work that requires that to be removed (changing spark plugs earlier than normal). 1. change spark plugs 2. clean EGR circuit and intake manifold of carbon. 3. change tranny fluid again (every 60k miles) 4. change all coolant, engine and inverter 5. change brake fluid 6. correct in changing oil every 5000 miles and check for oil usage every 1000 miles 7. inspect your brakes, many will go 150k miles without needing to change them.
I know a great mechanic in the Rosemead area that can do all those items for you. He works on all my Prius cars. Let me know if you want the information
Anyone know what would that cost at a Toyota dealership and is it even the type of work they are willing to do? (no "dealerships suck" replies, please)
Dealerships will not clean the parts, only replace them. Costing a LOT more! It's better to find and independent shop to do that. Even if they just remove the parts, you take them and clean them and they reinstall them. It will cost a lot less money.
