I am looking to install a secondary reverse camera on my '23 Prius Prime XSE Premium. For that, I am looking to identify the location where I can tap into the 12V+ wire for the reverse light. Anyone know of the location of the wire, or a pin number of a connector, either in front or back of the car? Thank you! P.S.: Long story short, this car doesn't have the in-built panoramic view, so I want to install an aftermarket solution that creates a virtual panoramic view just from a single fisheye backup camera (ATOTO AC-SC3601)
I've got a reverse-linked mirror kit from Toyota Japan and it taps into pin 38(black wire) of connector R17 on the Power Distribution Box Assembly in the front dash. I'll attach docs at the bottom to show exactly where. If you want something in the back of car, try pin 8 of junction SR1. It should be gray going in and red coming out.
I used these to wire up my trailer connectors. Nilight - 50004R 120 Pcs/60 Pairs Quick Splice Wire Terminals T-Tap Self-stripping with Nylon Fully Insulated Male Quick Disconnects Kit They work great in the limited space, and they disconnect easily.
For permanent tapping, I really wish 3M made a version of these that could handle 20-22 AWG. https://www.3m.com/3M/en_US/p/d/b5005048018/ They have dielectric grease built into the connector to give moisture resistance.
Did you happen to snap any pictures of your install? I'm looking to see if I can find the connectors and how others have wired trailer wiring
Unable to load photos. You will need a 3-2 trailer light converter. Those connectors work great in tight spaces. Other take up a lot of space,
