Hello! The tire symbol lit up on my dashboard (gen three 2013, 61k miles, 20k miles on Michelin tires) while I was on the freeway so I pulled off thinking I had a flat tire. I checked all tires and they were properly inflated. Brake fluid was ok too. The day before I had one tire at 27 lbs so I may have a slow leak. I inflated it to match the other tires at 36 lbs but no warning light at that time. But the warning light continues to be lit. Any thoughts and how can I reset the light? Thanks, Doug.
Seeing that it is 10 years old, I would guess the battery in one of the sensors is dieing... Might as well get 4, because the others will start to go before too long. I had one going out, now there are two. I have 4 new ones, just too lazy to replace them.
So only $10.50 apiece? How confident can we be that ones that cheap are fully functional and reliable? My tire pressure light came on for the first time a couple of weeks ago. That was not surprising, considering that their batteries are nearly 13 years old. I might just ignore the light, unless legit replacements can be had for not much over $42, installed when I next need new tires.
Our ‘10 (built Aug 09) had the light come on, stay on a day or two, then inexplicably went out. This was about 6 months back. My position: when ours do fail I’ll be doing nothing, just carry on, and get regular valves when it’s time for new tires. But for OP, if he wants to maintain TPMS, I’d at least give it a while; they may come back on.
It's interesting that yours outlasted mine in terms of time---although not distance travelled. I can't imagine why the light would go off unless it had been on due to actual low pressure--which could be partially temperature-related..
If you had a cold night and the tire pressure dropped, and then you didn't drive it again until until a warm afternoon, the light might go out on its own.
On my old 2006, I had one go bad at 9.5 years and the others lasted closer to 12 or so years. During that period I fudged one reading with a binder clip to keep the light off, just for fun. At some point I replaced them all. I had been fiddling with one OEM TPMS in my hands I got extra due a flat, with Techstream, and I started to realize pressing on the TPMS showed "fake" pressure ( I was trying to see the temperature increase but surprised pressure went up too).
