Did the 1st oil change today myself at 4600 miles. Dealer said free one is at 10K, too long an interval for me
    Pretty easy. 30 min

That's weird; i had mine done today and the dealer explicitly referred to it as the 5k service (despite my car being closer to 7k), and I didn't have to pay for it.

My 2014 PiP had milkshake crankcase syndrome at 5K service and it wasn't changed. I got the cartridge housing removal tool and did the oil change myself with valvoline 0-20 synth that was so clear (back in those days) it was impossible to see the oil level on the dip stick without a magnifying glass and bright light.
After the first oil change I never had another issue with the oil.

The 2 year service package Toyota provides follows the standard service schedule in the warranty manual. That's tire rotation and inspections every 5000 miles and the oil change every 10k, or whatever time interval they list. It works out as covering two oil changes.

Assuming you asked for an oil change, the dealer used your 10k mile oil change credit to cover it.

Also, my time is valuable and I can do the oil/filter change in 30 min. with checking all fluids etc.
Tire rotation is free at my local shop 3/4 mile away.

Seems to be a bot of some sort. About half the posts are just effectively rewriting the post being replied to, as a sort of "me too", not even attempting to be a response.

I was wondering if you could share which oil, oil filter and drain washer you used. I'm trying to cross reference part #'s and some of the online databases are not up to date. Thanks, Michael

I used Mobil 1 0w-16, reused the original drain washer(they last thru many oil changes)YMMV, got the filter from the dealer #90915-YZZF1
Pretty easy DIY with a floor jack

Why would anybody do their oil changes on a new Prius? The deal takes care of everything for the first 2 years. The first oil change is 5k and after that 10k. Unless things have changed since the 4th generation.

The first free one is 10k, I tried to set up the first OC at 4100 miles and they said nope.
I'm a mechanic and my time is more valuable and I can do a better job than the dealership anyway
It's an all morning adventure to take it to the dealer for an oil change. I can do it in 30 min with all the inspection pts as well.
    YMMV

On my ‘22 Gen 4 the first dealership oil is is 1 year or 10,000 miles, the second is 12 months later or 10,000 miles.

If you walk up to dealership parts department they’ll sort all that out.

I usually buy online as the dealerships here in Las Vegas mark parts prices well over Factory MSRP.

I believe the correct oil filter for the 2023 Prius is 90915-YZZN1

That's same as gen 2 and 4, and 3 if you do the conversion.

I always do the first change at 700 miles, next at 2000 and 5K from then on. That's maybe an extra $250 to extend the life of a $35,000 car. I do my own. If you are not as crazy as I am, just do them every 5K and please do not wait until 10K for your first change.

I'm with you...many believe the new engines are pre-broken in at the factory, not true. Many years ago, they would put special "break in" oil that would help with the process but not anymore...so doing a couple early oil changes is smart. (First should be anywhere from 500-750 miles) then every 5,000 (or 6-months if you don't drive much.)

Seeing how others neglect their vehicles has made me ONLY want to buy cars new....why put a ton of money in a used vehicle that is on the verge of major drivetrain issues?
