I recently imported Prius v 2013 from United states to Canada and I need drl's on my car as per Canadian law, I enquired from Toyota dealership and from local shops but nobody has any permanent solution, can somebody help
We drive yellow LED fog lamps as DRLs using a 13.7 volt 'ON' triggered relay. If you don't have fogs, drive the low beams as DRLs.
FWIW, I see countless vehicles here with BC plates, and no daytime running lights. Up until about 3 decades back there were annual safety checks, for light operation, brake worthiness. Then that was axed, replaced by clean exhaust compliance. Then that was axed, and now it's the wild west. Maybe regulations are tighter in Manitoba though.
I also run yellow foglights as DRLs. Do you have a link to this 13.7v triggered relay? I had one many years ago from somewhere in Northern Europe, but it melted after a few weeks. SM-G781V ?
In general, you're looking for a voltage-sensitive relay that triggers above alternator voltage (~13.7 volts DC) which is above Battery and below the 14+V "ON" voltage in the Prius. If you eBay or Google, search for LED DAYTIME ON/OFF (SWITCH,MODULE,RELAY) They should be about $3 each and drive up to 10W LEDs
ff a 2013 has a headlight sensor, you can trick the sensor to thinking it is nightime with a piece of tape. If it does not, which i suspect you could run a relay triggered by the ignition to power the headlight circuit.
