I leave my key in the car and today I went out and the doors were locked. I assumed the battery was dead for some reason, however after AAA opened my door the battery was not dead. I am trying to figure out how this happened? Is it a sign my key battery is dying? Or I inadvertently hit a button on the key?
I’d get a second key fob or at least get another key cut from the hidden one in the key fob you have.
I've been waiting for this to happen to me too but usually if I'm going to leave the fob in the car car unlocked so on. I generally push the key button in underneath the steering wheel to turn off the SKS usually I put the fob in my WeatherTech floor mat right near where the gas opener is. And so far I've never come out to a locked car with the fob in the car because I'm really not prepared for that but I think it may be a glitch in the SKS and it wants to do that I have everything in tech turned off for the alarm and key functions even when I lock it it nothing lights up it doesn't do anything it just locks.
To answer your question....... Is it a sign my key battery is dying? I believe so. The car (at least mine) will not lock if a live fob is inside the car. The car will not recognize the fob if the fob battery is weak to the point of it being unable to announce its presence.
Leaving the key in the car, which you should never do, would not lock the doors, or train the battery, whicher battery you are refering too. I take it you didn't have a 2nd key and/or fob to unlock the door?
If a fob is left inside the vehicle, it can still be locked from outside using the second fob. It cannot, however, be locked using the touch sensors on the door handles—this will produce the KEY DETECTED IN VEHICLE message. Presumably the vehicle does not want to lock you out if you don't have a fob on you.
