Voice dial with Motorola V710?

I picked up a shiny new V710 the day Verizon released them :). Overall I have been fairly pleased with how the phone integrates with the Prius but I've found one annoying thing. One feature of the 710 I really like is the voice dial (none of my other cell phones have had this).

I wanted to be able to use the phone voice dial feature to start the call and then use the Bluetooth connection during the call. What I've found is that once the phone is connected to the Prius the voice commands no longer work.

My guess is that once the phone is connected to a Bluetooth device (presumably a headset) the phone is expecting all voice input to come from the Bluetooth device. But I further speculate the the microphone in the Prius is not activated until the call is actually in progress. Does anyone know if I'm missing something and/or if there is a way to solve this?

Not an answer to your question, but, does the Bluetooth in the 710 otherwise work with the car?

Yes, it works fine. The issues are:

    1. No ring (phone or car)
    2. No xfer of phone numbers to Prius phonebook
(until fix is issued by Motorola next month).

The motorola v710 works great with the Prius. The only problem is getting the phone book from the phone downloaded into the phone book of the car. Also, is there a way to enter phone numbers and names into the phone book of the prius manually??

The only way to "manually" enter phone numbers is to call them, or have them call you, and then assign to quick dial. However, that doesn't do you much good, as the numbers disappear when the car is in motion, and you don't have a way to enter names to match the numbers.

Soon the v710 will be updated, hang in there.

v710 are you sure there will be an update?

I called Motorola today (or moto as they call themselves) to see when the update would come out. I had heard as soon as the 17th of this month on some boards. The person I talked to said it was not determined if they would release an update. See Motorola choose not to implement the standard method of data transmission in the v710 (or the v600 a GSM phone) I want to believe an update is coming but I am not holding my breath. Oh and one more thing to add that the v710 does not communicate to my prius and that is signal strength.

I have a full address book because I had a sony Ericsson before I got my v710 and I transferred the data. If Motorola does not fix this I may try and sync the prius with my power book. It is so crazy it just might work.

BTW just joined the Forum I am glad it exists I love my prius.

    Prius phonebook

You can transfer an Outlook Express, or probably any other address book that supports sending to bluetooth, to either of the Prius phonebooks. If your bluetooth phone has a successful connection with the Prius, you can then transfer a phone list from a bluetooth computer/laptop or a bluetooth pda. A few caveats though. The phone numbers cannot be formatted. They need to be in the form 18182225555. If you have several numbers per contact, you will need to make them separate entries and give each one a unique name, eg BobsCell, BobsHome, BobsWork. I could not use my ipaq 4150 pda because the Contacts app insists on formatting the numbers. If you select all, or some, or one contact it can be transferred. Once contacts exist in the phonebook, you are given the opportunity to 'Overwrite' or 'Add' in subsequent transfers. Overwrite replaces the entire phonebook. So editing is basically deleting and adding.

    Thanks for the letter..

You know that people have said well there was very few prius's available for Motorola to have tested and find this problem.
But I would say they r wrong since the lexus models also have this problem so it could of been tested, just shows you that quality control has fallen off drastically.

For the people the phone does work for once connected even though the caller is only on the drivers side door speaker is the sound clear?
And do they hear you clear and loud through the cars mics or do you need to talk up?

    Thanks,
    Bryan

I just got my V710 and am generally very happy. Unlike my previous Sony Ericsson, when I dial a call on the V710, the Prius takes over and I can talk through the Prius.

My main problem is that I don't get a ring of any type, either on the phone or the Prius, when I'm in the car. As soon as I get out, my phone signals that I have Voicemail, and I find that a call came in while I was driving.

Does anyone have a V710 that interfaces with the Prius and gets a ring for incoming calls? If so, did you change any settings to make it happen?

    Thanks.

    Lou

    No ring V710

    Hi Lou
The V710 definitely has a problem with the ringer. Apparently the ring is disabled when bluetooth connected to the Prius. I think Motorolo expects the Prius to give you an audible alert. It would be nice if the Nav lady said "You have an Incoming Call" . I reported this problem to Motorola and they indicated they are working on a fix. I"m hoping they might give you an option on the phone to enable or disable the ringer with a bluetooth connection . There is also a problem with not being able to send your phonebook from the V710 to the Prius phonebook. I hope they resolve these issues as the phone is really very nice and performs well.

From what I also understand they will also add a fix in the new firmware to raise the earpiece volume level.

I just integrated my new V710 to the car today. Since the ringer doesn't sound, does the radio at least cut out when there is a call coming in? I noticed when I made a call on it that the radio cut out while I was on the phone. If the radio cuts out when a call comes in, to me that will work for a ringer since the radio is always on (and usually turned up too loud). Or it will work until they fix it.

Also when the fix comes out, how do I get it put on my phone? I'm sort of a cell phone novice.

Yep that will work. Unless.... you hit the hang up button rather than the pick up button. Of course if you have practiced this many times that will not happen but don't do that if your wife is calling you with an emergency. This is bad. Kind of like crossing the beams. (100 points to those who get the reference). I will be glad when this is fixed.

Who yu gonna call? Ghostbusters! Sort of ironic since we are talking cell phones.

I have the same problem with call waiting on a cell phone. I've hung up on people several times trying to remember which button to press to change callers.

Yes, even though you do not get an audible incoming call alert, if you are playing the radio ,tape, or cd, the audio is silenced so you will notice the incoming call message on the screen. That part works ok.

How will we know when this will happen? Who knows first? MOtorola? Or Toyota? Or Verizon?

Getting my phonebook into the car is the final thing I need to do to have everything working fine.

Although I would like to be able to use the voice-dial feature of the Motorola 710. That doesn't work for me in the car.

I'm still waiting for Verizon to deny any update will happen, and to say that the phone is perfect as-is. Limited Bluetooth is secure bluetooth. That sort of crap.

    I'd like to be wrong...

My phone is unanswerable from my car. By the time I hit the pick up button people have been shunted to my voice mail and I can't talk to them with out calling them back. Help what is the deal here?
