2024 Prius, questions so far

we have the same problem with our '24 hycam. when you power down, the stats flash so fast, i can't read them. very frustrating. i ask the dealer and toyota, and neither had a clue

if you can lift the mats out, they are the all weather mats. our hycam came similarly equipped. i never wanted all weather, but now i love them.

i had to get a ladder and hold the learning button on my 20 year old craftsman door opener, while mrs b pushed the homelink button. maybe use your remote until you're strong enough, or get help?

yeah, the electronics are baffling, even with the manual.

1.) Your car has previous trips under the toyta settings if your phone is plugged in you'll need to back out of the phone settings and go to the car's. its not very intuitive though. Like you mentioned when you turn off the car it will displayed the MPG you got during that drive. if somone opens the door you can press the back button on the left hand side of your steering wheel to bring it back.

2.) Mats yes, you paid extra for those lol.

3.) Homelink has lots of nice tutorials to follow. you will have to hit the learn button. you have 30 secs after you hit it to go back to your car. its easier with 2 people.

6.) Get to speed you'd like to cruise at. Press the cruise control button. Its on the right hand side of your steering wheel above the RES+.
RES + and - will increase or decrease your speed. the button next to the cruise control button is your lane centering. You should really read your manual. like you said repeatedly in your post. the technology has evolved quite a bit since your last car. All the answers to your questions are in your manual more than likely

7.) are you accidently hitting the lock button on the passenger's door handle? your key fob also doesn't unlock the passenger doors automatically. i believe you need to change the settings to unlock all the doors (could be wrong)

2. do not know. I do know: our '10 had carpet-style mats, and the driver's mat had no rubber insert. Wore right through within a year or two. I added a rubber insert, fine since.
3. I was stumped as well, thank god for off-spring that can manage this stuff.
4.Seems like the maps are wifi? Not exactly progress...
5. Cut down on storage, delete the spare, the extra glove box. What's Toyota's motto for that; something like "continuous improvement"?
6. Complexity seems to follow the Peter Principle after a fashion: it progresses to the point that the typical owner is mystified. Can also create dangerous distraction, when driving.

 

I agree that the mileage is kind of hidden in the 23/4s. In the app you can actually see the trips but I haven't been able to find the mpg in the summaries.

I've not found an all in one battery, econ, and average in the 5th Gen. You have to toggle though several screens with your left hand.

 

You don't need the wifi hot spot for any services. It's purely for devices. I guess if you had two or three kids with ipads it would be useful. We just make sure our kid downloads stuff before long trips.

If you want to use the built-in Toyota navigation system, that's under the Drive Connect subscription now. It doesn't require the wifi plan. If you want to use Google Maps or Waze or whatever through Carlink/Android Auto you don't need any plan.

Cruise control is the cluster of buttons on the right side of the steering wheel--top left button to turn on. The top right turns on lane tracing, which you probably want as part of cruise--you can press this once and let it be. The cruise control is wonderful. Keeps speed without racing the engine, stays in lane even through curves, and gives good space between you and the next car. Put on the turn signal and it will automatically change lane. Really impressive. You do have to keep a finger on the wheel and your eyes on the road. P343 in the owner's manual.

I don't think you can get a 5 minute MPG, but you can change the "eco" sub-view on the left side (the leaf) of the speedometer to show MPG. Then you can go into the settings and go to the settings and change it to be MPG since last manual reset, MPG since HV mode was entered (ie, this trip or the portion of the trip where you put it into HV mode), or since last fuel up.

On the door, do you have an LE? The LE only has the smart key auto-unlock on the driver's side door.

 

Wait, your car has a spare tire? The '23s don't. Did they add one for the '24s?

 

Toyota started cutting useful storage space with the gen4. I think lost all under floor storage. Just the foam holding the spare or goo pump and tools. The gen5 actually gives you some bins for stuff there.

There is a spare option in other markets, and swapping the parts isn't difficult. Just pricey for something that will be out of sight under the cargo deck.

 

There's a setting in the display to have all doors unlock when you either pull open the drivers door or hit the keyfob.

 

If I open the front door, then turn off the car, then get out, then close the front door, the back door is locked. If I turn off the car without opening the door, the back door is open. I think this is how it goes, pretty annoying when back door is locked. Then I open the front door and press the unlock switch. My dog is back there so always opening the back door. Gen 4.

The answers to some of your questions depend on the country and model of the car. Please follow up with that information or, better yet, update your profile with that information. As far as I know, in the USA, there are two configurations for the area under the hatch floor, but no model sold has a spare tire. Similarly, the options related to door locking are model-dependent in the USA.

 

As I said above- I also have the LE, and programmed all the doors and hatch in the multimedia to unlock when either auto-unlocking the drivers door OR the keyfob. Simple.

 

I noticed the other night driving my turn signals and wiper arm does not light up when I have lights on. Is this normal. All my previous Toyota primes and hybrids did. Can’t see to set to automatic at night.

I’m pretty sure you can also change the setting by holding down the lock and unlock buttons at the same time until the car beeps as well.

 

Did you ever figure out the mpg mystery? I had a 2016 and now a 2019 and I pay attention all the time to the mpg of each trip. My husband has a 2024 and we can't figure out why Toyota would remove the ability to see your real-time mpgs. It almost feels like they don't think they are going to live up to what they've promised. I also can't find a list like I have on the 2019 that shows yesterday's, last month's, and last year's mpgs. Again, why would they remove that?
How is your fuel economy so far?

 

our 2024 hycam is a huge info reporting downgrade from our 2013. all i can figure is that they've made these screens so complicated, they've even baffled themselves.

 

Peter Principal applies to automotive controls i guess. Would be nice to be able to select cabin vent mode, for example, without nearly going off the road.

 

Go to settings and it's in there somewhere. It lets you swap between all-time, this tank, and trip MPG.
