Toyota Prius Wins 2024 MotorTrend Car of the Year Link to Motor Trend: https://www.motortrend.com/news/toyota-prius-hybrid-2024-car-of-the-year/
Yes, and I have a subscription to Motor Trend. I qualify for you statement as well. They bought (Velocity) and renamed it the Motor Trend channel. If the Prius Prime could get 60-70miles on a charge. They would probably have the car of the decade.
lol....but these "car experts" have to always put their dig into Toyota: "The new Prius has proven itself the best new car on the market for the first time in 20 years." The Prius has always been an outstanding and innovative car...both hybrid and Prime. Sure, it's had some problems and issues but what car hasn't? At least Toyota fixes them and doesn't sweep them under the rug (or flat out lie about them) and only address them when a certain number of people have died. (I'm talking to you, American car makers!) The proof is in the pudding and I'm seeing a LOT of Toyota's out on the roads these days....even seeing Gen 1's out there!!! (Maybe folks are sick of the $3.00+ gas prices and parking their V-8's.)
The 2004 was the last Prius to win CoTY. That is all they were saying. Toyota has had their shady moments. They insisted the sludge issues in the early 2000s were user error, and not the design flaws in cooling channels. Then they ignored the laws during the sudden unintended acceleration issues by not reporting cases in other markets.
For those who know "Putney Swope", I suspect the upgraded and new Tesla vehicles had something to do with it. Regardless, it is an long overdue honor to the Prius. I no longer own one but for nearly two decades, the Prius got no respect: Bob Wilson
I well…now I can’t wait to see that car. BUT based on my personal 2008 Gen 2 Toyota is not well known for fixing its problems. I used to think there wasn’t a car on the road to match Toyota but my opinion u fortunately has changed drastically due to real life experiences.
I agree with you. Our new 2008 Prius in 2008 was a lifesaver for our family during the high gas prices. We finally traded it in after 12 trouble free years and 160,000 miles. During that time it averaged 50 mpg. By my figures - 160,000 miles/50 mpg = 3,200 gallons of gas used It replaced a vehicle getting 20 mpg 160,000/20mpg = 8,000 gallons of gas that would have been used. So it saved me from buying 4,800 gallons of gas which would be 4,800 x $3.50 gallon = $16,800 in gas savings alone. This does not include the savings in smaller replacement tires and savings in maintenance. The education this car gave me in driving sensibly and economically was priceless. The little Prius taught me how wisely picking out a reliable economical car can put hard earned cash back into your pocket = also priceless.
Sincere congrats to Toyota!!! well, I liked the Gen2 and 3 and v for cargo space kings. Win for Hybrids anyways Also Camry going all hybrid
