Prius-V 2013 ABS issue codes C1253,C1252,C1256

    Hi Guys,

    I know this is nothing new for this forum but i am struggling to find the informaiton and DIY pointers so creating new thread .

    ABS , traction and brake lights on . Brake is really hard and can hear the pump keep working every 10 to 15 seconds. scanned the car and found this

    Not sure where to start , if it is actuator or pump or both how do i make sure to change the faulty part .

    it’s just very frustrating after spending so much money on it by replacing water pump, thermostat, pcv valve, all the coolants, engine oil, cvt oil, inlet manifold and EGR cleaning and all the filters, now I have ABS issue. I believe with this kind of mileage soon there will be something else round the corner.

    I do not have repair manual and I want to spend minimum on this car, now the question is, Is there a way to find out what is wrong with abs which part needs changing I believe there is, but not sure how to check via Techstream.

    Your rates for viewing the repair manual in the UK are even lower than they are for those of us in the US, and for anyone wanting to avoid spending more than necessary on the car, trying to improvise without the manual can be counterproductive.

    Toyota in the US replaces these free for ten years or 150,000 miles. Far past warranty due to frequent failures. They replace both parts because of the labor involved for just one which has to be repeated if the other part fails. The system has a special bleeding process and calibration best performed with Techstream.

    Unfortunately the complexity and built in ecu of the master cylinder portion has prevented a rebuilt option so far.

    You could ask the dealer if a similar “Customer Service Program” might apply.

    Here in the US failed head gaskets has become the next big expense on these cars.

    Update, I ordered the parts from Japan used ones, master cylinder and accumulator but received only Master cylinder as apparently, they don’t allow accumulator on international flights bcz of compressed nitrogen.


    I sourced the accumulator from scrapyard locally, but the issue is it has slight difference in the part number.


    Part from scrapyard: 47070-12010

    original part number: 47070-12020


    Now the question is this part will work or not? any input will be helpful.


    Planning to DIY.

    There is massive confusion from scrapyards on the brake booster part numbers. In your case a v/alpha wagon has a brake booster pump housing 47070-12010 that is sold on brake booster pump assembly 47070-12020.

    This a new Prius v/alpha pump assembly with a closeup of the housing.

    Some used ads show the master cylinder with that -12010 number as well, perhaps because it’s the only number on the pair they can find. A standard Prius sedan has a different pump housing part number with the assembly pn increased by ten.

    Ok , manage to change the Master cylinder and accumulator , all the error messages are gone now after doing the bleeding, brake is working fine .
    Pleae see the video in the link below, I am not sure if this is normal i think there is a slight hissy noise when i press the brake, brake is working fine and cannot see any visible leaks either.

    I went the used route first and it failed in less than a year.
    And next will be the Traction battery and the Head Gasket.
    Sell it....
