Which Engine Oil Is The Best For My Prius 2016

Oem is the best, no need to overthink it.
If it’s easier, Mobil one is fine

 

Mobil1 produces Toyota oem oil. You’ll do fine with either. Theres bunch of other good brands that’ll do the job. I also like pennzoil ultra. The most important thing is changing your oil at recommended intervals.

 

Or sooner. I’d cut the interval in half.

I was using Toyota oil, purchased in bulk, til the price suddenly went through the roof. Now buying the 2-pack of Costco Kirkland 5 quart.

 

Your oil fill cap, I assume says 0w-20? Use that oil. Some newer years gen 4s switched to 0w-16. Just use what your cap says. There’s extremely minor differences between the two, you probably won’t notice any.

 

agree. I would have hoped recommended standards is “at least” once a year. Ive been a previous owner of a gen 2 Prius and changed roughly at Toyotas recommended interval and by year 10, I was faced with burning oil loss. I am a 6 month oil changer, hoping I don’t deal with oil loss. I’m hoping to keep my car 10+ years.

 

I was 6 months too, April and October, but our usage has really dropped off, only putting about 3000 miles on yearly. Last spring I did my usual mid-April oil change, entered the kms in my log, and uh…, it’s only about 1000 kms since the previous fall change.

Gave myself a talking to, resolved to make it once a year. I made it through October without snapping.

 

That’s been our mileage too, with nearly all of it short trips around town. Because of that (the short trips), and the hybrid’s system cycling the ICE, we have and plan to stay with the 6 month OCI. We aren’t comfortable with longer intervals considering the gasoline dilution of the oil with the ICE cycles.
