I recently took my 2014 Prius in for the 100k maintenance. I chose what the Toyota dealership called "minimum", which is what service said aligned with the Toyota issued Maintenance Log. At the time I wasn't sure what I had seen in the manual but the dealer recommended both the engine and inverter coolants be changed at 100k. I did it, because I want to keep up on my car and have it run as long as possible. My maintenance log says engine coolant initial at 100k, inverter coolant initial at 150k. I called to ask and they mentioned that sometimes their system doesn't align with the maintenance log, and that regionally it may be different (I am in the Sacramento urban area). They said then that the inverter coolant can be redone at 200k. Is this business about the inverter coolant true? Additionally, any reason a dealership (a Toyota one) would have different maintenance schedules than my Toyota branded maintenance log? I appreciate it - and please spare me the talk about taking my car to a dealership for maintenance. I am working on finding other shops in the future Thanks!
welcome! 1) their lips are moving, thus, lying 2) by regionally, they must mean country 3) wheter you can wait until 200k, idk. since it should have been 150k, i think i'd do it every 50k now, but someone with more knowledge may come explain why 200k would be fine. 4) with a 2014, you should research egr cleaning, it's pretty important, especially at 100k, and planning to keep the car. 5) all the best!
Doing it early isn’t going to hurt anything, and is definitely better than doing it late. As long as the price was reasonable I wouldn’t sweat it. Way too many PC “engineers” would advise against it and then blame Toyota for problems. The additional protection clean coolant provides for the VERY expensive inverter is worth it to me.
Quoted for truth 100% of the service advisor's job is to get people to pay for literally anything he can convince them to pay for.
