Those CarParts splash shields are much flimsier than the originals. The large one sags quite a bit.

One issue I’ve had with the aluminum skid plate is an annoying resonant buzz at low engine rpm. All bolts are tight, but the buzz persists.

that's a first I've heard of any noise, I know when I installed mine i precut four squares of sound deadoning matt i had and making a sort of gasket if you call it. I planned on getting some industrial-strength floor mat squares and then cutting them into strips, with some heavy-duty spray adhesive. The plan was to set up my engine bay area to get as close to water tight enclosure effect as I could get.

My experiences with cat shields has taught me that when you mount plates like this under the car you need solid metal on metal contact to eliminate noise like that. With the shields in the Gen2 Prius there's a plastic cover on the front of the shield that the car has and if you use that with shield install it has the same dampening as a mount for the edge of a drum skin and will make it amplify certain frequencies. The more solid to metal the plate is mounted without dampening from plastic or other material, the less noise/rattle.

Zero noise or vibration on my install.

Just great protection and improved aerodynamics.

What’s wrong with the stock underbelly plastic cover?

how does it catch air and cause bad aerodynamics?

The plastic panel is prone to being torn and damaged, which can cause drag.

Lose your oil pan door and now you have more drag.

Not to mention the plastic one is not flat.

The aluminum skid plate will protect your engine from road hazards.

One of the good upgrades to do to a prius.

how is does aluminum fair in salty snowy roads in the northern states?

Or would plastic be better for my situation?

guessing the metal is more the southern off road thing

You can always spray it with a coating.

Better to have a big rock hidden in the snow hit your aluminum skid plate than tear apart your plastic one.

But what about all your other 'signature links/$$'?
Like how is that water injection system doing?
Is that a 'bad upgrade' to do to a prius?

    @Bill Norton

I think it would be an extreme upgrade not a bad upgrade.

I needed to wait on that purchase.

But I couldnt wait on the skid plate purchase because my plastic one tore off and I was losing my fender liners too.

Did you have "professionals" doing your oil changes?

No I do my own oil changes.

I do not trust companies like Jiffy Lube.

    To Burebista:

Is that steel skid plate off another car? If so, which car, year, etc? And did you need to modify it to fit your 2010 prius?

    thanks!

Nope, it's made for Prius 3. I have a link in my previous post with it.
It fits fine without modification. The only drawback is that I must remove it for oil filter change but my mechanic is now used to do it. :)
