I have a 2010 with roughly 172000 miles. About a month ago it started misfiring. I replaced the plugs and that took care of the issue for about two weeks. I then started misfiring again and the code was for a number two coil. So i swapped that out and cleaned all the plugs as well as the injectors and it ran better that ever. Then this morning started misfiring again but the check engine light would just blink and go away. Any help would be much appreciated before I take it to a mechanic. Also there is no coolant on the head so I dont believe it to be a head gasket.
How much oil do you burn? Have you ever cleaned the EGR system? Oil consumption will slowly clog the EGR system which will then result in a misfire. For me, that happened around 110K miles, with a clogged ERG Valve and pipe. Now at 220K and haven't encountered that issue again, though I did clean the EGR again at 200K just to be certain. There is no coolant on the head what does that mean when you look down at the engine you're looking at the valve cover? To see this coolant that you're looking for all four spark plugs need to come out and you need an inspection camera to stick down in the spark plug hole and look in the boar up where the head meets the block that gasket you'll see seepage usually in one and two cylinders number one is on the right side of the car.
Varying stages of head gasket failures. It will rattle and shake here and there before you notice coolant loss. It's a head gasket 100%. Likely failing waterpump the cause/dirty EGR.
I’ve looked with a camera and didn’t see anything also just changed the oil and have checked it several times and looks normal. I bought the car with 168000 there’s not telling if it’s ever been done. I just changed the pile about a month ago and I’ve checked it several times since this has started and everything seems normal.
In these particular types of engines you're not going to see the coffee light looking light brown in your oil It's going to stay pretty much separated until it's catastrophic and it's probably not driving or running anymore usually in modern engines you don't see a lot of the oil and water getting mixed up and turning into that solution your oil stays pretty doggone clear actually this is why people are wondering and claiming they don't have anything going on because you're not getting the classic symptoms that they got in their Ford pinto so on and so forth now you're getting a very light dripping into the cylinder wall and the rattling and the fire is burning the water up this is why you're getting the rattle fires being put out prematurely.
Failing head gasket due to long neglected carbon build up in the EGR system. Failure typically starts at the wall between cylinders one and two. These cars need EGR cleaning every 50k.

The test value that you can read out does not, however, tell you the condition of the four individual passages in the intake manifold; those are worth checking now and then by actual inspection, which is easy; removing the intake manifold is a quick job.
It's better to refer to the dipstick more often than that. Every fillup was what we were taught in driver's ed; maybe some people think that's too often, but it isn't going to hurt, and if you're using oil, you'll find out in time. If a car's enough of an oil burner, waiting for oil change time can be too late for the engine.
Yeah there won't be any oil that comes out of the drain hole. But seriously, every week or so just pull the dipstick tube before you start in the morning and notice the level and note if it changes.
If it's coming OUT of the intake you got more problems..but yeah, it's just typically going to be "low" on the dipstick. Consume and Burnt are two terms not tantamount with each other here (unless you haven't changed your oil in 20k).
My guess is the lungs! Try cleaning the air intake system and installing an oil catch can while manifold already taken out. I assume the tiny holes in the manifold mostly clogged, specifically #1 and 2. Also, take a look inside of the cylinders. The car pollutes itself for the sake of the environment with bad egr design haha
I have not cleaned my EGR cooler, or system in years, my car doesn't burn oil, I don't do oil catch cans, I don't have misfires, I have almost 450 thousand miles Hell I even have a spare EGR clean ready to go.
