Senior flu shot 2022

Phooey. I got my flu and bivalent COVID booster at the same time in the same arm.

Hope that hasn't impaired their effectiveness.

 

my doc recommended the same time if possible. i think the cdc does as well, if only not to forget the flu shot.
covid shots are a waiting list here, 10-14 days

 

Gosh, there is a tiny bit of misinformation in this thread, at least if you believe the CDC, the University of California, my local county health department and pretty much any other "recognized" institution.

But I really value the fact that PriusChat is pretty well-behaved vs. many other online forums, so I will try to be kind and gentle.

First, I got my fifth CoVid shot four days ago -- I have had the original two-shot series, plus three boosters. I got all of them pretty much as soon as available, despite a few misgivings, remembering the Polio vax disaster of the early 1950s.

I had NO reactions at all, not even arm tenderness to the first four injections. The fifth shot, I had somewhat significant (what's that mean) soreness at the injection site for two days and I had a mild fever that onset about 13 hours after the injection and lasted about seven hours.

Can I prove the soreness and the fever were related to the injection? Well, no, but...

As for getting the influenza vaccine. Everything I have seen from a reliable source -- see above -- says it is O.K. to get them at the same time. As for me, I usually get the influenza shot in late November or early December, since every time I have had influenza I have had it in late December, January, February or March. This year, I may follow the Great and Powerful Bisco and get it in mid-late October.

I chalked up, rightly or wrongly, my extra arm soreness this time to having had two danged shots in the same arm.

 

Could be, could be. In terms of all this, these "Me & Joe" or "just Me" tales are not enough to prove anything, although any sensible person....so, yeah, I would think two shots at once is more likely to cause a reaction of some sort. I don't mind suffering through a week or 10 days of illness. I don't mind having a somewhat mild to moderate reaction to the injections.

I dread the thought of going to a hospital and possibly a nursing home, considering my age -- so I get the shot.

As an aside, the local county health department ran a drive-through clinic last week. I hate the whole idea of drive-through. I don't even use fast-food drive-throughs, but it was what was available....So it ran from Wednesday through Friday from, oh, I don't recall, but maybe 4 p.m to 8:30 p.m. Went about 6 p.m. the second day, told the wait was 2.5 hours. Went around 5 p.m. the second day -- same wait.

Give up the idea, but, by chance, happened to be driving by the site around 7 p.m. Friday night and it looked pretty empty. Ten minute wait.

Again, I do not get the drive-through thing, Waste of gasoline and exposure to a lot of toxic fumes...sort of like being in a San Francisco rush hour.,,,

On, a somewhat related note....what happened to the whole "air injection" thing. I remember we had an outbreak of diptheria (too lazy to look up spelling) when I was in junior high and we all had to line up to get some sort of injection method they used in the military where high pressure air forced the vaccine into our arm. It did not hurt.,...

 

A COVID and a flu shot in one arm was a little extra sore, for me, but nothing like what I remember of Shingrix, say.

I don't know if there was any extra reaction involved because of the two interacting. It could easily just be that I had the desired immune reaction to the COVID vaccine, and the desired immune reaction to the flu vaccine, and both those things were happening in the same patch of muscle.

 

got the senior today because i was at the doc anyway. a little earlier than i hoped, but we'll see how it goes.
scheduled for the bivalent covid shot 10/17. later than i hoped, but they are really backed up around here.

+1 on no side effects from the Senior flu shot.

Bivalent vaccine completely different story but I'll save that story for another time and hope no one else has the same issues I had.

Had Bivalent vaccine on a Thursday and the Senior Flu shot the following Tuesday.

 

Feeling fine today, just a bit tender at the shot site, hardly anything.
If only the Covid shot was this easy

If the injection is pushed in fast the injection site will ache. Just ask the injector to push it in slow.

 

My current dentist has a gizmo for injecting lidocaine that is driven at a controlled speed by a motor instead of the human squeezing a syringe plunger. This is supposedly better for comfort. On the other hand, this giant gizmo is a lot more imposing to watch being stuck in your mouth than a simple syringe, so, there's that.

 

Got the senior shot yesterday. No side effects.
First time since I started getting it 4 years ago, just a hint of stiffness in the shot site.
Usually, I’m down for a day.

Got our Flu shot last week also.
I felt fine wife had a very slight temp was fine the next morning. Going to get our 6th i think Covid shot/booster this week.

Neither of us ever caught Covid. And I have not caught the flu in a few years. I think mostly because I have retired and no longer interface with lots of people.

I've had the flu so bad a few times couldn't lift my head off the bed. I'll take whatever I can get my hands on to avoid that. I think the best thing you can take is a daily Align pill and Vit C. It works I never get sick anymore. I had a doctor years ago prescribe Align for me.Its over the counter. Not cheap but works.

Immunity is in the gut.

 

Align pill is interesting. I eat probiotic yogurt every morning

 

Its a powerful pill and has improved my health.

I saw a PBS show on TV about Probiotics once and found out that probiotic pills you buy at a vitamin store are a scam. To be a legit probiotic there culture must be registered with the FDA. Align is the only probiotic that has a FDA register number on its box. #35624 to be exact..

Its not cheap but I highly recommend it if you get sick. Or if you have any gastro or colon issues.
