I'm the original owner of my 2006 Prius. It has 405,000 miles. I do all the work and maintenance on it myself. Installed refurb battery at 275k. That lasted a few years till around 375k.Then decided to rebuild the battery with refurb cells available from eBay sellers. That only gave me another 30k or so before 'triangles of death'. So it is currently not running and has over 400k miles. I think it is risky to invest in another battery considering how other major parts could fail with the miles on the car. If I sell outright, what price could I expect, just typical scrap value? Or has anyone eBay parted out a Gen 2 Prius? So hard to part with that car... second only to my current 2018 Camry LE hybrid as best car owned.
if it's the oem cat, they're worth something. can't imagine much else, but if all it needs is a battery, someone might want it.
Never sell it for different parts. Most you would never get rid of and then be left with an immoveable hunk. Sell it as a whole. Maybe on Ebay or somewhere.
As someone who has parted out several cars yours might not be worth the effort. I would guess that in a month or 2 you would get 500 bucks and be stuck with a carcass that would have to be cut up and hauled to the scrap yard, for a gain of maybe 100 more.
It’s a great buy for someone looking for a donor car as long as you’re honest about what parts you’ve replaced - like the eBay cells.
What about buying a junk yard HV battery for a few hundred and then sell the car for $2000 as a working car? There always buyers for the right price. I assume you do not have any use for it anymore.
