How does one remove the vent cover to easily vacuum the filter?

no I’m not taking apart the trunk access to it, that’s for cleaning the fan.

It depends on if you have one INSIDE behind the cover, you have a cover over the vent.
You can do a search and find video's on youtube on how to remove the cover.

I just watched someone do it on a prime, different design but same lay out the filter was right behind the grill of the vent and they used a flat head screwdriver to pry one corner out then carefully the rest by pulling it apart slowly.

I only know of the one on a Gen 3. It's on the right side trim piece on the rear seat.
There wasn't an inner filter on mine. I bought the one that clips on and I also bought
some mesh a/c filter and cut it to fit behind it.
It catches all the fur and dirt. All I have to do is pop it out, rinse it out, and reinstall.

It isn't difficult: there's a bolt (12mm socket size, I believe) that holds the base of the plastic part with the vent cover. You can remove it by pushing aside the seat cushion, reach in with a ratchet and extension. Once that bolt is out you pop the the vent cover out.

Yeah, I think it's just the one bolt at the bottom of the panel with the filter in it.

Does anyone know what years/models came with filters? I got conflicting information whether I could retrofit the later unit with a filter to my 2010.

Yes, I've seen that information in other posts, but does it fit right onto the earlier models that didn't come with it? I haven't been able to find a straight answer in my searches yet.

It was designed for the 3rd Generation. I have a 2010. It fits mine.
You can try it while you're at the dealership and if it doesn't fit, return it.

Thank you, I did that yesterday and was only able to have enough room to fit the vacuum extension into to vacuum it, the filter would not come out, so what I did was dissect one of my new micro filter vacuum bags and use the least air restricting layer to lay on top the metal filter the Prius comes with, not a perfect cut or fit but it stayed in place after I put it in there, some metal mesh is exposed but it’s got low miles on it so far plus I have dog so not too worried about the fan getting dirty or needing to be cleaned.

    I have a 2014

    Which Prius do you have?
You must have a different model. There is no metal in the filters for the Hybrid system.

The 4 model, so what the hell did I just clean then lol I followed everyone’s recommendation to unbolt the 12mm bolt and got access to it, is that not that hybrid system battery filter? Maybe it’s plastic mesh and not metal but it’s definitely a mesh style filter.
