The dissapearance of mechanic shops and mechanics in general is something that causes me to often consider not buying another car and going without. When it takes 3 weeks for them to just check a flat tire for you only to tell you they don't have time to deal with it, things become quite discouraging.

The closest Tesla service center is about three and a half hours away, and it doesn't have very good reviews. I'm not sure what the experiece would be like owning a Tesla if it needed service. The only people I knew that had a Tesla here no longer have one. I was quoted $400 per month for full coverage insurance on an older Model S. I'm not sure if the distance I live from the cities has anything to do with that cost, but I wouldn't be surprised if it did.

So, if I owned a Model 3, the service experience could be better or worse than what I have now.

All I know is I find I avoid going to a mechanic like if they had the plague. If I can fix it myself, I do.

    Interesting.

Personally I've never owned a car still under warranty, so I don't know what that transition feels like.

The problem with that is it still isn't clear to me if it's going to matter how much I owe in taxes at the end of the year.

I guess I won't believe it until people start filing their taxes for the year 2024 (by April 15, 2025). Or, unless it is completely clear by the IRS that the $7,500 or $4,000 will apply regarless of how much taxes are owed at the end of the year.

In my experience, it's when things start to break/wear out.

    That's something I don't mind.

What I mind is when it costs $9,000 or better just to fix that one little thing that wore out and is designed to be as anti-repair as possible.

3½hrs .... sounds like over 200 miles? Don't know if it's still the same - but in 2016 when we had a Model S - 200+ miles - the mobile repair vehicle would come to you if you were that far away. If the mobile couldn't take care of it they would flat bed it back. The other cool thing is even back then - your Tesla was connected to the mothership .... where sometimes they could actually diagnose stuff on your car remotely. We had an air suspension solenoid sensor for height adjustment up front that went out intermittently. Didn't know what the warning light meant. Called up service & they diagnosed it over the air & gave us the safety go ahead to drive it on in. Pretty cool.

Very interesting. Let me see here... According to Google Maps, the closest Tesla service center is 173 miles away at an estimated 3 hours and 11 minutes away.

This is over a couple mountain passes in Colorado, so weather permitting.

I wonder how that Tesla over cellular thing would work out if I buy a used Tesla some day. I must say I have a lot of mixed feelings about how Tesla presents car repair options to their customers. That being said, I can't say other car companies are any better regardless how they operate.

My Tesla service center is ~120 miles away in Nashville TN. But I've had two visits by mobile Tesla techs. The most recent to replace a failing 12 V battery. I visit the Nashville service center to buy parts that I install.
