My 2006 Prius with 200k miles needs an engine. If you selling such an engine in or near South Western Colorado (all of Colorado, Eastern Utah, Northern New Mexico, etc.) I could come and pick it up to save on shipping. I do need an engine without frozen rings and cylinder galling. I'm not too particular about mileage, but mainly as long as I can scope the cylinders to check for damage before purchase is what I'm asking.
Have you checked the local salvage yards? I got mine a few years back for $175 they don't go for much because they rarely blow up.
Thanks! I'll check. There are a couple salvage yards that are only 2 hours from here. One does deal mainly with Toyota and other Japanese imports.
If you decide you are willing to buy a rebuilt engine, I can give a two thumbs up for Hybrid Pit in Southern California. I have had good luck with them. Setup your own shipping though. I found what they offered to be on the high side.

Thank you, but if these engines were rebuildable, I'd rebuild it myself. Hybrid Pit claims they bore and hone the cyinders. However, as far as I understand, you can't/shouldn't bore and hone Prius engines. Maybe if they resleeved them, but I doubt they do.
I thought about doing that, but I've not done one before. Plus, I needed the car up and running again, so I just got one of their rebuilds. So far, it has worked flawlessly. We've probably got 10K on it now (just a guess... my daughter has the car in another city, so I don't check it that often). The car was in great condition otherwise, so I wanted something that give her reliable transportation. Anyhow, please post pics of your rebuild, although the engines are pretty much stock on a lot of the smaller Toyota vehicles.
Well, like I said before I don't consider these engines rebuildable. Toyota does not recommend rebuilding. It would need to be resleeved, and that's not recommended. Hybrid Pit doesn't even mention resleeving, which makes me even more nervous. I'm either getting a used engine or a new engine. I do not want a rebuilt engine.
Call the salvage yards even if you have to drive several hours to get it the cost savings will be more than worth it. I bet ebay has them with shipping but you will pay a lot more.
