New CoVid shot

Yeah when it comes to woman I've noticed that the ones I care about in my life make little mistakes that really don't matter..rarely did they do something really dumb, non practical, knee jerk bad choices. I can't say the same about myself or many guys I know. I clearly think there is a winner in the sexes for doing dumb stuff. We men have it.

 

Got both flu and covid shot Thursday. Arm sore all day friday and feels better today. No other side effects.

 

Got 3 vax a couple weeks ago.
Flu, Covid, and RSV all the same day.......yikes. The pharmacy suggested I get the Covid vax especially as when they run out they weren't sure they would be getting any more.

My arn with the Covid was super sore for 2-3 days. I also was a little fatigued for a couple days.

I don't think I would do all at the same time again but it's over.

While I would tend to agree with you, my spouse definitely does not. She very frequently rails against dumb females for being equally dumb as males. With her being an insider, seeing and hearing the stuff her side does that my side typically doesn't hear about or notice, I'm not really in a position to dispute her.

 

in my personal experience, women take much better care of themselves than men. just an overall generalization, but it might lead to better longevity.
also, in the past, men worked more hazardous jobs than women, but that has probably changed more recently.

My own first father was killed in an air taxi accident, while going to a field site during what was mostly an office job.

Just a WAG. I assume he was talking biological father vs. Step.

 

My own terminology. First father is the biological one, who perished in a work accident, leaving a widow and three very young children. Second father is the step-father, who we grew up with but didn't legally adopt us until we were adults. Before adoption, I usually called him a step-father. After adoption, I dropped the 'step-' part. It wasn't like there were ever two simultaneous fathers stemming from a divorce. Though mom's remarriage had given me a 5th living grandparent.

Second father came from a blood line where no recent male ancestor had a 62nd birthday, so he expected and planned to be dead by his mid-60s. Instead, that is when mother died, while modern medicine gave him an additional quarter century, almost making 90 this spring. A bit longer than he really wanted. I'm still emotionally processing his loss, but having been present during a medical emergency a few months earlier, assisting with new care arrangements after, and later hearing from him that he had absolutely no mental distress or anxiety or discomfort during that event, makes it much easier to accept the result of the repeat event. From a mental view, he just dozed off for a nap both times, and the second time, didn't wake up. No one was sitting with him that time to intervene, but he had changed his health care directives to no longer allow the interventions that revived him the first time, so it was peaceful. I hope my eventual end is similarly peaceful and painless.

Now it is time to get my own health care directives and similar documents in order.

Of my three parents, none passed anywhere close to their 'average life expectancy'. Two were quite early, one went way overtime. The spread around the 'average' is very large.

Will, Power of Attorney, Health Directive, Trust (if necessary), estate planning all are vital to get done.

Another point I might bring up is if it has been awhile since you had them done - get a review. We had done ours done about 20 years ago to protect our kids in case something happened to us - a car wreck where we both passed away etc. We decided to have our estate planning documents reviewed by an Attorney 2 years ago and it turns out State Laws on probate had been updated and changed - our documents were no longer valid and couldn't be probated under current law. We had to go through the process again of generating proper legal documents. A hassle but I am glad we did it. Now we determine how our assets are distributed and what happens to us and our children when we die - not the State Court System

 

we did that before we started driving to florida 20 years ago. you never know when some rogue on our highway systems will take you out.

all too often the legal community's reliance on intestate software will neglect the potential for simultaneous death(s). Lack of such provisions have embroiled families in discord. Even finally crafted trusts have sent families at odds for many seasons. The Getty estate comes to mind.

we didn't even fly together when the kids were young

 

The shingles and pneumonia shot on Monday hit me me much harder than the covid and rsv shots did last week. Five shots total with the flu shot. Sort of glad I spaced them out while they spaced me out.

Yea - over the 100's of prior covid shot pages - the shingles shot was introduced. Most noted how horrible it was ..... in some instanceit was the 1st dose ..... & others it hit hardest on the 2nd dose.

 

Yep we got our two Zosters Shingles shots a few years ago and they packed quite the punch. For my wife, the first had the most side-effects and the second was worse for me. Glad they are not a repeating vaccine!
