Hello. I know there was some fix to the models from 2014 onward or so that was supposed to fix the head gasket issues but I am not sure if this was effective. Should my 2015 Prius be fine with this fix, or should I get my EGR cleaned like the earlier gen 3 models? Also, would cleaning the EGR pipe be enough, or do I need to clean the complete EGR system? Thanks!

I have a 2015 and plan to clean my entire EGR at about 110k, maybe 120k when I do the spark plugs.

I have a 2015, and cleaned my EGR and all related systems right around 100,000 miles (maybe a bit more, can't recall exactly), and while my cooler was not extremely clogged, it still was quite bad and required some pretty extensive cleaning. In addition, there was quite a pool of oil sitting in my intake manifold (under the throttle body), and the EGR passages in the manifold were very dirty.

Having said that, I still recommend it even if our 15's have the revised pistons and rings. There's still a lot of oil vapor condensing and getting past the PCV valve that could cause issues. In addition, I did add an oil catch can, though illegal here in California, and the amount of oil I dump each oil change is noticeable. The only thing I can say, I have no oil or coolant loss and I'm a bit over 153,000 miles now.

and do 5k oil changes and test the coolant acidity also. we do not know how much the new pistons and rings helped, but hopefully a lot.

It's still a 2Z FXE I don't know what the updated changes are some kind of sleeves or shields and supposedly a change of some rings I don't know whether it's that crappy oil control ring that looks like dog doo doo or whether this engine also has crappy not very springy compression rings which is the two rings above the bottom one If that's the case then there may be a another set of complete rings oil control and both compression rings possibly a design change and piston but I kind of doubt it I haven't read up on any of the changes for the latest iteration of the 2Z engine but I'm thinking we'll see now corolla's and 2015s and 16s and 17s should be getting to the mark where this generally happens 170 to 220,000 right in that ripe area so I guess we will see.

How did your final operation go on this? Removed and cleaned with ease? (Or with a few choice cuss words?). I did my EGR system removal and cleaning around 170K and it was a bit of a pain but worth it. Even discovered a good solution to that dreaded bottom bracket.

Liked your Excellent Merv egr video with very clear superimposed highlighting. Also very good wiper cowl instructions.

Thanks you, sir! Glad you enjoyed it. That bottom bracket was sure a lot of fun. :)
