Maintenance Priorities

    Hopefully you’re not using an Allen Key:

    As @ASRDogman alluded to, you want a proper Allen Key “socket”, 10 mm Metric, on a long handled ratchet wrench or breaker bar:

    above wrench is Jet, roughly 18” handle, what I’m using:

    Jet 672929 1/2" Drive Flex Head Ratchet Wrench - Heavy Duty

    With the extra long handle it’s pretty easy. Make sure the socket on the plug is clear/clean, get the socket driver solidly inserted, should break loose without drama.

    Thanks for making sure that I don’t make a “noob” mistake. I have attached a photo of me using a level to make sure that the transmission fluid tank is level. I was careful to avoid some of the slopes in the tank towards the front of the vehicle, and I tried to make sure that something that looks like a sealant at the bottom of the tank does not interfere with the reading. Does it look good?

    That's deadly level. Even rough level will work, just picture: you're filling till it starts coming back out. The spec is level with the fill lip, or as much as 10 mm lower. Even slight off-level would be no problem. If the front end was raised really high however, then when you're filling it'll start spilling out sooner (since the fill hole is towards the back.

    Note in the above, there's no mention of the car needing to be level. But common sense says Toyota just didn't consider DIY''rs doing a front lift only, presume the car's on a lift.

    and I don’t need to worry about torque values for the drain plugs right? I am verifying that I have a generation three Toyota Prius.

    Nevermind, I read it in another post, I know it is 29 ft. pounds now.

    is the extra fluid worth keeping for the next time, or will it degrade?
