Sorry if there is a FAQ for this, but a search was frustrating. It's time to replace the 15 inch Ecopias on my 22 Prime with something a little better. What's the consensus for all season tires? Michelin Defenders maybe? Please weigh in on your experience. My priorities are: 1. Dry/Wet handling 2. Low rolling resistance 3. transmitted road noise 4. Tire life. Thanks!
I liked the Defenders. Good dry and wet handling, good mpg and life (70,000 miles). Road noise is not bad.
I was very disappointed in the life of the OEM Toyo's that came with our two Piis. The first set in the 2017 were bald after just 24,000 mile while mine lasted 30,800. (Two were pretty bald the other two were in the yellow zone.) 2017 got replaced with General Altimax RT 43 which have a 65,000 mile warranty. (Discount Tires) After 7,000 miles, they still look almost brand new. I just replaced mine with Summit Ultramax A/S which have a 70,000 mile warranty (Tire World) and happy with them but can't speak to their longevity, yet. I change the oil every 6-months so will rotate the tires if it's been 5,000 miles. (The 2017 only gets rotated once a year, she only drive 5,000 miles a year.)
That's Ecopia EP422 Plus? Presumably the made-in-Japan iteration (there are two others...). How many miles did you get with them? Any complaints? I'd probably go with the Defenders; get the latest version. Or X-Tour equivalent through Costco. You may well see an initial mpg drop, usually comes back, at least mostly.
Yes, I think the 422s. They're ok, but with 24K now, they are getting noisier. Biggest complaint is since they're not H rated, The sidewalls aren't stiff enough to really handle well. I'm looking at the Defenders or Yokahama Avid Ascend, both H rated.

The one issue I have with Bridgestone Ecopia 422 Plus, there's three iterations of it, all significantly different specs. I'm not sure how they let that one slip through...
Our 2020RAV4HV came with Michelin Primacy now at 50000 miles I am quite impressed with 40 MPG on that size car and tires, and I don't recall ever getting 50k miles on new car tires.

I've heard of this being a fairly common problem with OEM tires in general, not specific to any one car or tire maker. Tires installed at the factory tend to have shorter tread life than the tires we buy aftermarket. Another factory cost savings.
