Reprogram immobilizer after HV ECU replaced?

    Just saw this video on youtoube (
    ) showing how to jump the OBDII port to reprogram the immobilizer on a Camry Hybrid, after a HV ECU replacement, to get the "Ready" light. Does anyone know if this is required on a Prius and if so, will this same method work? Any other thoughts? Thanks.

    It is correct that the ECU COMMUNICATION ID has to be programmed between the hybrid vehicle ECU and the transponder key ECU. Here is the procedure:

    7. ECU COMMUNICATION ID REGISTRATION
    NOTICE:
    The ECU communication ID should be registered when the hybrid vehicle control ECU is replaced
    in order to match the HYBRID VEHICLE CONTROL ECU COMMUNICATION ID.
    The hybrid vehicle control system cannot be started unless the HYBRID VEHICLE CONTROL

    ECU COMMUNICATION ID matches.

    Insert already registered master key in key slot and turn power switch ON (READY) with brake pedal depressed.

    Check that hybrid control system stays on for more than 3 seconds.

    8. ECU COMMUNICATION ID REGISTRATION (TRANSPONDER KEY ECU - HYBRID VEHICLE CONTROL ECU): PROCEDURE "E"
    NOTICE:
    • If the transponder key ECU and/or hybrid vehicle control ECU has been replaced, register the ECU communication ID to both ECUs in order to match their IDs.
    • The hybrid control system cannot be started unless the ECU communication ID matches.
    • When the transponder key ECU has been replaced, do not turn the power switch from ON to OFF 20 times or more consecutively. The ECU communication ID must be registered before such an occurrence or the transponder key ECU will need to be replaced. If the transponder key ECU is unable to be recognize the hybrid vehicle control ECU, the hybrid control system will be unable to be started. If the transponder key ECU cannot recognize the hybrid vehicle control ECU, the transponder key ECU must be replaced again with a new one.
    • After the registration, pressing the power switch may not start the system on the first try. If so, press the poser switch again.
    • After the hybrid control system is started, erase DTC B2799 (code for hybrid vehicle control ECU's immobiliser communication error) using either of the following:
      - Using the intelligent tester [​IMG] .
      - Disconnect the battery for 30 seconds.
    (a) Register the ECU communication ID.
    (b) Using SST, connect terminals TC and CG of the DLC3.
    SST: 09843-18040

    (c) Turn the power switch ON (IG) (do not start the hybrid control system) and leave it as is for 30 minutes.
    (d) Turn the power switch OFF and disconnect terminals TC and CG.
    (e) Check that the hybrid control system starts.

    Hi.
    I need to replace my transponder key ECU, due to a mistake with switching my power switch too many times.

    Can I use a second hand ECU or does it need to be brand new?

    What symptoms do you get? SKS car or non-SKS? The power button is an input to the power source control ecu. I cannot imagine how pushing the power button in any manner would hurt the transponder ecu.

    First thing I would do is use a capable scantool to see what codes you have in all systems, then see what data you have from power source, smart key, etc.

    Used ecu's can work BUT it can be very involved (& require special tooling or added steps) depending on what your exact scenario is. I would do testing before trying to order anything.

    I replaced the hybrid power ECU and then used techstream to change the vin to match my car.
    After that the U0110 code finally disappeared, but the power button will only turn the ignition on, but won't start the car.

    I read that if you actuate the power button more than 20 times it kills the key/ immobiliser ECU.

    Techstream says it cannot connect to this ECU, so I was assuming that the ECU was dead
