I did this 5000 miles ago. If you have the death rattle and you plan on replacing the engine, DO THIS IMMEDIATELY. It will buy you time. Remove the O ring off the coolant filler cap. This will stop the coolant system from building pressure and the death rattle will stop. This is the second time I have bought myself time for planning my head gasket replacement. Some will say that this will cause hot spots in the head/engine, so do at your own risk if you plan on rebuilding the engine. I plan on doing the head gasket again as I used cheap China parts to rebuild it last time (lasted 50,000 miles) and I didn’t mill the head. If I wasn’t beating on it, the China crap would probably still be solid. But the fact is, if you continue to drive with the death rattle, the engine will eventually hydrolock, and you will throw a rod.
Yes you're just removing pressure from the cooling system that can be done in vehicles in numerous ways and that is a good idea to help keep the pressure off the seepage area Best thing to do is when it seems to me to do is when you start the car be ready as soon as that thing starts to rattle give it the gas generally it will clear almost immediately you burn that water off I mean in a few strokes and the rattle is gone until water starts pissing into that cylinder under some kind of pressure to put the fire out completely You're pretty good this is generally just stuff that seeped in overnight You're starting up to burn that off so help it hurry up give it the gas goose it whatever if that's possible in your vehicle some of these vehicles I know when you step on the gas the throttle doesn't like to go up like it has a cable or something's keeping something from happening but usually on my persona it works pretty good I hear a saint beginning of that rattle I step on the gas and it never develops.
Every death rattle start is a potential blown engine throwing a rod through the block. The only side issue is I only get 50 mpg versus my 60 mpg. But that’s the compression loss between cylinder 1 and 2. If you remove the O ring. You can drive without fear of the death rattle, misfire. I think I have added 8 ounces of water in 5000 miles.
