I’m so discouraged and confused. I recently hit a deer and it ruined a headlight. Since they are old I ordered replacements online. I took apart the front and pulled the drivers side. The original headlights have a control box. The new replacement does not. I felt uncomfortable about if the newer ones would really work and especially didn’t feel comfortable taking the control box off the old lamp. I’m using videos to help me but none of them show that box. I had to reassemble my car with the broken one still in it. I’m sure thankful for knowledge you have. also I have read others chats about the bulbs. I’m thinking I may need guidance there also.
So then you have the headlamps with two projectors in them looks like two eyeglass lenses that are round in one side of the headlight you have two projectors.. I guess they have LEDs and the control box and they're about $1,300 aside with the control box so on and so forth that you kind of need to have working for the original system to be intact so are you saying you were able to buy dual projector headlights that take regular bulbs not the fancy special LEDs coming from the control box in the factory setup? And if that's the case what did the housing maker recommend for bulb sizes? Is it made to take the bulbs coming from the control box in the original car? Or is it saying you need to put in h8 and H11 bulbs and then wire those accordingly to your car? Or something else? I am curious to know about how this is being handled by the aftermarket
With a 2010 US level “V” Prius, you have the LED low beams? To verify, are there little oblong caps an inch or two below the headlights. Those are covers for the headlight washer, only on level with LED’s.
Yes, Mendel. That is what I have. Thank you. Any advice? I am finding some pre-owned headlamps on EBay. Any chance you’d be willing to help me know I get the right one? At this point I would just get the right (passenger side) one. Unless you have a better recommendation. I’m here because I need advice. Thank you Well, there’s no instructions with the replacements. Just friendly videos helping. I am returning the ones I purchased on line. Cheaply made. Yes the housing easily would take the H11’s and H8’s. Every bulb was transferable except the projector box which includes a lot of wires. I didn’t go any further as it appeared that I wasn’t going to be able to make them work. You’re right in wondering “What are they suggesting?” I have no idea. At this point I believe I need pre-owned from EBay. What do you think?
Phone a dealership parts department would be my first step. If possible check with several. For sure clarify yours are LED.
So then if you have factory low beam LEDs or the dual projector LEDs in whatever model that is Prius v Prius 5 I don't have a clue but if you have those LEDs in these two configurations you can't just buy housings from the aftermarket to put in this car because I guess there's nowhere for the bulbs to go they're integrated with special fittings and so on to fit in the housing dedicated for their ballast box lamp assemblies I'm guessing and that hasn't been covered by the aftermarket or so it seems and they're very expensive from the dealer even aftermarket those things look $3to400 if you can get all of the pieces in one place. And fitting the regular generation 3 single projector open high beam and the marker light type lenses will do you no good because the relays and all that stuff probably aren't even in the system because you have the LED ballast and assembly that's being run off whatever circuit look at your fuse box.
This page “likely” has the headlight you need, but you’ll need to verify part no, and with the current state of Toyota USA’s part site, I would check it and local dealership as well. Very likely the most expensive ones. https://www.amayama.com/en/catalogs/toyota/prius/3-hatchback-right-xw30-2009-2830/electrics-4/headlamp-311
