Fellow hybrid fans.... For many of us technical change is normal and easily appreciated, but for others ANY change can be daunting.... Hybrid vehicle technology seems alien still to many...and as we still frequently experience the question "when do you have to plug it in?" can yet be heard. So, for those drivers who are older, this technology is truly strange and "new," but they may still see hope and promise in it's development. Thus...demographically....who is the OLDEST driver to embrace this new driving experience? I suspect, but cannot, of course be sure, that it is my wife's FATHER. At 94 years young, Don Iwahashi of Daly City, California purchased his 2006 Prius, package 6, last August,so that he and his 90 year young wife can enjoy the benefits of hybrid driving. Anybody out there KNOW of any older "new adopter?" George in Sacramento

Can't beat 94, but I bought mine at 64 (and my best friend got hers at 65 - both '07 models bought in November 06)

My wife's 94 year old cousin drives a 1st gen Saturn all over Las Vegas! Even had it stolen at a casino (but found later. Cops thought she had just "lost it", but it was found in another Casino). She rode in our Prius and liked it. Maybe someday ...

I'd be more impressed with a youngster choosing to drive a Prius, willingly, because if he maintains those values over the rest of his years he might make some major positive contributions to the world. <div class='quotetop'>QUOTE(Skwyre7 @ Dec 14 2006, 08:06 AM) </div> Would be my guess since its the "hottest" color. <div class='quotetop'>QUOTE(F8L @ Dec 14 2006, 01:11 PM) </div> Wouldn't Barcelona Red be "hotter" since it's brighter? I would've been the youngest two years ago. I think syzygy is younger than me.
<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE(Tideland Prius @ Dec 14 2006, 10:06 PM) </div> Calling “Red†hot is actually wrong since it represents the “coolest†side of the spectrum. See attached image., left side 1000 Kelvin, right side 10000 Kelvin
<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE(F8L @ Dec 14 2006, 04:11 PM) </div> Purchased my '06 Prius 12 days before my 23'rd birthday (Happy Birthday me!), which, coincidentally enough, was one day before the tax credit was cut in half. <div class='quotetop'>QUOTE(nicos @ Dec 14 2006, 10:56 PM) </div> Agreed. Higher energy = shorter wavelength. Tideland, "Hotter" is in the name.. Salsa Red

I humbly yield my crown, as oldest Prius owner/driver. The last time this topic was threaded I won at age 80. And I had to defend my safety record against a bunch of agist critics.
<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE(Tideland Prius @ Dec 15 2006, 11:00 PM) </div> And "Driftwood Pearl" is probably called "Vegimite"
<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE(F8L @ Dec 14 2006, 01:11 PM) </div> I believe I have the youngest passenger....
<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE(Rancid13 @ Dec 16 2006, 05:53 PM) </div> I'm voting he has the coolest name as well.
I don't think there is a thread for the youngest owner yet, so I'll put it here for now. I bought my brand new '06 pkg. #8 Magnetic Grey Prius when I was 22 years, 11 weeks and one day old. It was an upgrade from my 2000 Honda Insight that I bought just before I turned 20. Although I was capable of regularly averaging between 59 and 67 mpg with the Insight, I do love the Prius.
I am 64 and I bought my car a few months ago...I would have bought it sooner, since I had a 15 year old Camry to sell, but thought I would wait to see the Camry hybrid first...it was Prius all the way for me. Recently I ran into a couple at our post office...78 years old...it was their second Prius! I do believe though that many people have fears about driving and owning a hybrid...not just older people...one of my "young" mechanics, made some comments that showed he really didn't understand much about a hybrid. Also, I get unbelievable questions from many people of all ages. Evan's thread about misconceptions is really good...sometimes I feel like printing it out and having it ready to hand to people... Hmmmmm, good idea! terri I happen to be a bit "techy" ....taught myself just about everything I know know about computers. When I first learned to use a computer, it was with those big boxes of IBM cards that I had to punch one by one to do a program, then MS-DOS...but I never used either. By the time I got my first Windows OS computer, it was 1997. So, I don't think age is the factor. I know a lot of people in my age group that would own a Prius and that are very tech savvy. terri
