Does anyone know if its possible through Remote Connect to open a garage door? I have an LE which doesn't include homelink and would like to stop the need for carrying my bulky remote for the garage to open it as I leave to go somewhere. Coming home is not an issue, as I have both a button inside the garage door and a remote in the car to open it. It's just when I want to open the garage to leave that's the issue. Btw, the garage is not attached to the house and is locked shut when car is in or out of it.
Remote Connect does not have a garage door feature. However, the Frameless Homelink Mirror that is available for other Toyotas fits in the Prius, so there’s an option for you.
As I stated in my first post, I have only the LE, which doesn't include Homelink. So if there's no way to use Remote Connect to open a garage door, then I won't have another option to open my garage when I leave my house
If it'd fit on the same mount, Toyota seems to sell that frameless Homelink mirror for around $120. Plus, it says it's battery-operated, so if it'd fit on the post/ball/whatever, that sounds like a very viable, and fairly inexpensive option! Frameless Homelink Mirror | Part #PT37400210 | Toyota Auto Parts toyota PT374-00210 - Google Search The lack of Homelink capability, and the lack of a key sensor on the rear hatch are really my only 2 regrets about getting the LE vx XLE - this might cut the regret list in half for $120!!
Went to the website to look at the homelink mirror option from Toyota- it states 'may not fit your vehicle' when putting in 2023 Prius LE. Thanks, anyways, Jim! I'll keep an eye out for it- would love for it to work.
Chaimberlain Garage doors have a “my Q” phone app that also has an Apple Watch app that I use so as to not have to carry a remote. I can use the home link on my mirror when in the car, and use either the phone or watch app when leaving or returning on bike rides.
I'm not sure I understand the question, but Amazon (and I'm sure other retailers) sells Homelink remotes, some of whichfit on keychains at below $30. You might see if anything they sell would work for you. Just go to your favorite retailer and search for 'Homelink.'
Personally, I'd look into splurging on: 87840-0W460 It runs around $375 after discounts, and it's the mirror in the XLE/XSE and the standard mirror on the LTD/XSE+. You'd have to pull down the Forward Recognition Cover(the big black plastic cover behind the mirror) and take a picture of the upper left section of that part of the windshield for me to be certain, but I think the wiring is already there to provide power to the mirror. It would probably be a 15min swap, and all you need is a screwdriver with a T20 Torx bit for one screw. With the swap, you'd get HomeLink controls plus an auto-dimming mirror. Some might consider it a little spendy just for a mirror upgrade, but if you plan to own the car for several years, it's a nice quality of life upgrade.
I already have one of those. It's bulky and with that and the remote for the car, doesn't even fit in my pocket.
Ok. Thanks everyone for the help. I'll try this the opposite way- can you use Remote Connect as a substitute for the keyfob, or will it allow you to drive the vehicle without the keyfob in your pocket? That could be a way for me to only retain my phone and the mini remote garage door opener without the additional keyfob in my pocket??!!
Yeah, I saw the same thing, but am going to call the parts guy at my dealer tomorrow, and see if he can figure anything out. I am still waiting for the car to arrive, so if he thinks there is a good chance it might work, I may have him order one for me, and try it when I go to pick up the car in a few weeks. I'll post what I learn back here!
Thanks Jim! I'll be interested to see if it works and how much it costs to install. May not be cost effective for me. Depends on the install costs.
Yes - remote connect will let you start the car without a key fob. It's free for the first year. I was using it because they're only providing one key fob right now and my wife prefers the physical key. It's a great idea - but has issues. First is the app - it's slow to connect to the car even on a wireless network. Get in an area with low cell signal and be prepared to wait. It's taken up to 5 mins to get into my car and start it at times. Then one morning I was leaving home for work and it said "Toyota Servers Unavailable". I grabbed the key fob and have carried it ever since. I work in a secure facility and my wife wouldn't be able to come and give me the key fob if the servers were "unavailable" when I left work. Or driving Uber and take a bio break an hour from home. So yes - the app will work but there are caveats.
