Not recalling the %, though it was the same % all around (Gen3). Discovered that at night, especially roads or areas not well lit, I wish the tint was lighter on the driver and passenger sides. Tint is close to 2 years old and now noticing a few little pin hole style holes appearing.

Ceramic worth the extra cost? Seems to be 2-3x the price...what is a reasonable average for ceramic these days?

I have done 5% all the way around on several cars. I deem it medically necessary due to my lack of melanin. Skin cancer is too risky for me. Well worth the tickets and the cooler car.

Went with 15% on the windows and clear on the windshield. Have no issues at night and find that glare is greatly reduced. A very noticeable reduction in heat build up from sitting in the sun all day.

IMHO: This is a 'red hearing'; Tesla didn't want to replace the glass and blamed the non-factory modification for the defect. If you think about it; glass can withstand an enormous amount of heat and pressure. You can certainly heat the glass hot enough to burn the tint off the window. The cracks formed by the heating and cooling of the glass, through an imperfection in the glass. I'm sure we've all had rock chips in our windshield - after a season or two, a crack will walk itself across the glass; if you don't get it filled. Sometimes it will crack anyways; I was told a 50-50 chance if this happening; even if filled.

Years ago; a dealer tried to deny my windshield warranty crack claim - stating it was from a rock chip from the highway. Upon examining the windscreen, the crack emerged from under the windshield molding. After removing the molding, there was a clear chip on the outside edge of the windscreen - back deep enough that there was no way anything could have got back there. Maybe someone used a screwdriver to push the molding down and chipped it. At that point the dealer covered it under warranty. Manufacturer's defect...

If its covered by a lifetime warranty, just go back and point out to them and see if they'll redo the tint.

It is absolutely worth the cost at a lot of places. If your tint shop itemizes between labor and materials.. you'll see that the materials costs doesn't jump much more with ceramic.

It was 100F today and the difference in heat being absorbed by the dash and steering wheel from no ceramic tint on the windshield to having full tint all the way around is very, very obvious.

IMHO, dark tints on front windows is kinda dangerous. At night you won't be able to see pedestrians, cyclists and anything that doesn't have a light source.

That’s why I went 80 on the windshield, 35 on the front windows, and 25 in the back. Is a good balance.

I just had mine done last week. We've been using the same shop since the mid-80's and have never had a bad experience with them in all our past vehicles. I told them that I wanted the highest TSER available with a 20% VLT and they suggested their VortexIR ceramic by Saint-Gobain. I couldn't be happier with the results.

I considered it and decided I'd rather have a clear view the rare times I want to look up. I'm going do some research and see if there are smaller reflective shades I could put between the sunroof and retractable cover. I'd just have to be aware that they'll fall in my face when I open the shade, but might be worth the trade off to cool the car a bit more in the Florida heat.

They do make clear ceramic window treatments that will block up to 50% of the heat coming thru. That's what I did to my windshield.

On your tinted front windshields, at night with car and traffic lights, do you guys notice a bit of blurring and streaking?

No not at all. It actually cuts down the glare from headlights and sunlight. Note: when first applied, you may notice some tiny bubbles or it may look wavy in spots, but that goes away within a week.

This reminds me I need to make an appt for tint. I will prob do the mid grade ceramic like my last car. I paid high $400’s I believe last time. I used to only get the cheaper dyed tint but the heat rejection is very real on quality ceramic tint.

Less heat in the car from the blazing sun should equate to better mpg all around and also better ev range for us prime owners due to less need to blast AC (y)
