Is there a good source for brand new modules? I want to replace some my battery is getting 0 charge and car is now completely dead can’t get it started. This is the reading I got off dr Prius also showing trouble codes which I attached as well. Money is a huge issue right now so willing to do whatever work necessary to get this car going
You have two failed modules in your pack. The only way to get NEW Toyota modules is to buy a complete set from a dealer. Lots of people sell USED modules. "Just" replacing a module or two seldom works. Module effective capacity degrades with time and use. That's fine as long as all modules in a pack do so evenly. Then voltages remain close to each other under all circumstances. A different used module can/WILL have different effective capacity and state of charge (you can't determine that based on a voltage reading). Voltage levels will be (too) different between blocks during use. This will trigger a new round of P0A80 - P30xx codes. Folks have "refurbished" packs by replacing bad modules then discharge charge cycling all modules (which improves effective capacity). Some do load tests and "measure" capacity, others don't. Some use hobby - RC chargers on individual modules. Others use a "grid" charger that does all modules together. If done well, you can get a few more years from your pack. Those who do it "poorly" have immediate faults. Here's a really long thread on the subject. You can also do a search on "grid charging". https://priuschat.com/index.php?posts/1788250 Posted via the PriusChat mobile app.
Best to buy modules from someone thats selling them individually from their old battery pack. Newer generation prius packs that use NIMH are compatable as well as hybrid camry I think.uses the same module format so no reason to go for new when good used modules are readily available. If you get say 4-6 of them to be safe, then replace your worst ones with the best replacement ones, the pack will be good once again. Best method to follow is use a hobby charger and learn how to test amp hour capacity and internal resistance. Then match pairs of modules such that the average internal resistance of each pair is as close as possible, and secondarily the average amp hour capacity for each pair is as close as possible.
I'm going through this right now. I bought replacement modules from hybridautomotive. The modules ship out of California. I confirmed with my hobby charger discharge was >5000mah
