Review of my yellow 2023 XSE Premium Prime

AHB is just turning high beams on and off automatically. The lights project fixed patterns.

AHS uses the fact that the headlights are actually a matrix of LEDs to control the shape.

For example, cars ahead don't necessarily mean turning the high beams off - it can just cut out the light in that direction.

I am SO jealous of you Canadians. You get the good colors. I love that yellow, and when I saw it on a YouTube review, I wanted it immediately, but no joy in the country south of you. Sigh. Congrats on your new car. I have a Chill Pearl (I hope) coming in a few weeks. They have my deposit, so....)

 

Does anyone have any further info on the "My Home" function? Will it allow you to run the air conditioning while charging?

You can run the AC while charging the Gen 4 Prime's, but charging appears to stop while the AC is running.

-- On a waiting list for a Guardian Gray or Wind Chill Pearl XSE Premium. I expect to get a call later NEXT year if I'm lucky. This is to pay MSRP. My local Toyota dealerships have told me that with a "mere" $5000 markup, I can get in line immediately for the next Prime unless I get outbid. Gonna pass on that. I can spend that $5k on a very expensive tint job and clear bra instead.

 

Yes it will keep charging - as long as the power required to run the AC doesn’t exceed the amount supplied by the charger. Otherwise it uses the battery to make up the difference.

It’s described in better detail on page 134 of the manual - under “power balance”.

Re long drives, I have driven Toronto to Montreal a couple times (~7 hours) no issue. I find that the seats very comfortable.

Monday will be my 1-year anniversary since taking delivery, and still very happy. I have only drive 14K km (work from home), and going on almost 4 months since I bought gas (April 30). Have also avoided any door dings yet (knock on wood).

I do find the ventilated seats a bit disappointing. Even on the “max” setting, it is very subtle. Such that you will only notice it if you turn it on after being in your seat a few minutes then turning it on. ‍♂️

The other (minor) disappointment is the digital key, which is pretty useless and unreliable, IMO. I have had to delete and re-download the iOS app several times to fix it, and the car usually only sees it if the app is open and in the foreground. I would never leave without the fob, which defeats the purpose. ‍♂️

It's really pretty (your maximum yellow). I really like the Wind Chill Pearl, though, so no regrets.

Yeah, I am sure there is a link between the HVAC temp and effectiveness of the ventilated seats. I usually keep the climate control at 21 or 22C (~70F for our American friends ), and I figure that should be “cool enough”, putting it lower to help the cooled seats seems redundant or wasteful. I find the ventilated seats most noticeable if you turn them on after sitting for a few mins and let the climate control reach effective temperature, then the coolness will be felt. If it was already on when your got on and started the car it is easy to miss, like a frog in boiling water kinda thing.

 

I think the next car we get, we go for a fun colour. This is the first time we've ever gotten a new car, and we went utilitarian with the purchase (base model SE, chose from the no extra cost colours - so ended up with cutting edge silver), etc.

Next time, we'll hopefully be in a place to be a bit more adventurous. Though ultimately still utilitarian since it would be a family car, at the end of the day. I'm hoping there are good options for Toyota EVs when the time comes to buy something else. If we need a second car and our old one dies, I'll get whatever is most cost effective used locally for a few years of ownership and trade it in for a decent amortized short term cost. But dang, I really am wanting a more fun colour now and kinda wish i had pulled the trigger on at least a nice red or blue. I don't think yellow was an option for our trim level. Sadly.

 

Correct… in Canada, Yellow is only available on the top trims (Limited or XSE Premium), while the Blue is only available on the XLE/XSE and above. The other colours are available on any trim, to my knowledge.

I agree about fun colours though. I find the roadways are way too GREYSCALE out there… SOOO many black / white / grey (and honourable mentioned to silver) vehicles on the road… let’s get more colours out there to make things more interesting to look at! Bring on the red, yellows, oranges, purples and greens.

I have only owned 5 vehicles in my 30 years of driving… metallic light green Mazda (my trusty 323 with 82hp! ), bright red Acura, and then three Prius in dark blue (2006), light blue (2014 Plug In, incidentally the colour was also exclusive to the PHEV), and now my 2023 is Yellow. I’m doing my part to brighten up the world. I like different.

 

We wer really considering the yellow but decided for the boring (but cool looking dark gray). To be honest I think it was a good decission as the car turns already too much heads. Cant imagine how crazy it would be in yellow.
