Wow! that's expensive if that is per tire. Do you have a Costco near you? Right now I believe they are $169 per tire at Costco. The Michelin X-tour tire (similar to Michelin Defender) is $150 a tire and has a $50 rebate if you buy 4. They are a little less efficient, but have an 80,000 mile warranty and performance a little better. Generally Costco rotates their rebate between Bridgestone and Michelin every couple of months. Even if you don't have a membership, you would save more than the membership cost just on one purchase. These prices have gone crazy. Even those Costco prices are more than I paid for them a year ago.

 

Are these 15” or 17” tire size?

 

But VERY reasonable if it's for a set of 4.

And Google should point you to almost EVERY company that retails tires.
A couple of searches might do the trick.

 

Guesses from other owners won't really help establish how "efficient" they will be on YOUR car
with YOU behind the wheel.

But it might give you a ball park idea.

It might lead you astray too.

Anything on the LRR list should be "good enough".

If "good enough" is not acceptable to you, you will be
unhappy most of your life.

I was at my local Costco in Los Angeles 2 days ago looking for tires for my 2021 Prius Prime and the rep told me to get the Ecopia EP422 Plus and not the Michelin X Tour A/S T if I want to keep getting good gas mileage. He said that he's had both tires on his non Prius car and his mileage with the Michelins dropped from 400 to 370 (7.5%) per tank of gas. The inside edges of my front tires are getting bald & he recommended a wheel alignment after I install new tires. Any comments or recommendations about wheel alignments for a 2021 Prius Prime?

 

Definitely get an alignment if the soon-to-be-replaced tires are experiencing uneven wear, just to protect the investment in your new tires.

 

He’s likely right. I’d go with the X-Tours (aka Defenders) anyway; they will get better mpg over time, and are superior overall (personal opinion).

also the EP422 have maddening variations, depending on country of origin.

 

Any thought given to Michelin Cross Climate 2?

 

Our daughter had Cross Climates on her Civic for about 10,000mi until it was smashed by a Tesla. They were excellent in several inches of fresh snow (Sierra mountains) that gave a number of other cars problems and performed well overall. She wasn't tracking of gas mileage and I don't know how what they'd do to a Prius's mileage vs. LRR tires.

Well, I'm in a similar position. Have a 2018 Prius Prime with OEM Toyo Nano A29 tires that will soon need replacement. Have always gone for long tread ware on previous cars but much more interested in low rolling resistance on my Prius so will be following this thread. I will put in a plug for "Discount Tire"--a national chain whose local dealer here in Asheville has been outstanding to deal with on my previous Honda Fit over multiple years. (Have even continued to give me free tire rotations on my Prius even though I haven't yet bought tire from them for the Toyota.) Anyway, I now drive less than 8000 miles a year so tread life is less of a concern given that tires supposedly should be replaced after 6 years due to age alone. On a recent visit the tire person I was dealing with at Discount Tire suggested I consider Kumho Salus TA =11 that supposedly have very low rolling resistance and were less than $90 each with 75,000 ware warranty, although it doesn't look like that specific model is available anymore. Another CR recommended choice was the Altimax 365 AN at $115 per tire and 60000 tread ware warranty but I had Altimax on my Fit several years ago and they were noisy. Want to hear more from other Prius Prime drivers regarding their actual experience?
