Got my catalytic converter stolen. Mechanic replaced it. Not long after, check engine light comes on, obd2 says cylinder 1 misfire, replace plugs and coils, check engine light clears. Now, I get a clicking noise from the engine area (this might have occurred earlier but I just noticed it). I think it comes from the engine but my hearing sucks. Happens at low speed, coasting around 5-20mph and usually uphill. And feels like the engine is stalling a bit. MPG is down to about 30MPG. A quick discussion with the mechanic, he said maybe it’s the catalytic converter seal. I am to see the mechanic at the end of the week, but thought I’d get some input from you. All of the other posts about clicking noises don’t seem similar. Thanks!! Mike
Check for a loose or disconnected hose and/or electrical connection. Maybe have a friend check for the noises and where it's coming from.
Could be that the new CAT is plugged due to a manufacturing defect. And I hope you know that in California, the replacement CAT must be EPA approved. Which usually means OEM from Toyota.

My insurance covered the replacement of the catalytic converter and required to replace it with an OEM catalytic converter )I don’t know if that’s true with other parts). Thus was actually a longer story because the mechanic said the catalytic converters were on back order and could be 5-6 months before they arrived. Yikes! Luckily, one arrived the next day. I hope it has something to do with catalytic converter so that I don’t have to pay for it. Mike
It might be an aftermarked converter. You can look just under where the car seats are and see if you see two hoses near it. Those are for the preheater. HOPEFULLY, he didn't just put a coupler to join them. The aftermarker converters don't have the pre heater valve. If everything was fine and working before the converter replacement, you can bet it's something they did.
