i would say it's arguable

 

The prime is a different category vehicle having a gas tank. I would argue we don’t need more road competitors and racers on the public highways for one thing. I think people make these videos to make money. I must admit I have watched cars drag racing the tesla and all that Hoonigan stuff. I have to wonder why though. Ok they sit in a machine and one machine is faster. They aren’t faster. It’s like some kind of primal instinct.

Driving faster uphill on some empty and curvy canyon road doesnt sound like "racing" to me. Thats kinda exactly where I would push the gas pedal too after buying a "fun" and "cool" prius - not at all an artifical situation. So I think its a fair test and scenario and I personally feel thats much more valuable than over 80% of most tests, where people drive the car on straight roads and do the usual 0-60mph at one time.

As for the comparison to a faster tesla in the first place - that makes sense for people that could buy both (crossshoping as mentioned in the video). Dont forget the tesla model 3 is now much cheaper in some markets compared to the prius.
I personally decided still for the prius. But there is no need here to emotionally become a prius white knight or behave similar to the tesla fanboy crowd.

 

Did you see the Car Care Nut's review of the Tesla? He blows them out of the water comparatively to the Prius.

 

People may be driving on the road in the other direction. Like I said, too many racers out there these days. Maybe I got enough riding thrill rides taking the family to Disneyland so many times.
So you are telling me what or what not to write here?

 

car care nut is a biased nut, some of his tesla comments are ridiculous. even his comment about the prius speedo is ridiculous

 

No but I saw the crack in the guy’s mega casting on the front end of his new Tesla. I sort of thought I hope the newbies know what they are doing, just to be different when they were boasting about it awhile back.. Said in fun as I know Tesla owners can be a bit cultish.

but in all honesty, if there was as much hate and stock market nonsense for toyota as there is for tesla, it wouldn't be hard to continually post toyota problems on the web.

This review by MotorMouth on Youtube is positive, but they bring up the A-pillar blocking outward vision thing a couple times. Any Prime owners care to comment on this?

 

Everything was weird the first time I sat down in a G5 Prius. I came from a G4 (2019 LE).

The beauty of the car kept me coming back to the dealership to sit. Each time it was more comfortable and the shock slowly wore off. Today after almost 3 months of driving, I have zero complaints. It's a pure joy to drive. I'm sure if I climbed into a G4 now, it would be a shock in the other direction. The G4 would probably feel like a farm wagon in comparison (it would surely drive like one).

I sat in a Lamborghini Hurracan the other day. The windshield rake is truly very similar. Except the Lambo's was much smaller. Much less headroom too lol.

 

Thank you for that information. I think every time a person buys a new car there is some amount of adapting that has to happen. Just wanted to hear from owners - again appreciate the comment.

 

Yes I agree the pillars block the view but what I feel is worse actually is the giant tech block behind the (standard) rear view mirror. The result for me: feeling I am in a sports car - visibility is less than my no-sport-feeling 2009 Prius, cabin is smaller, cargo space is smaller, pep is through the roof better and the looks - well I love, love, love the styling - it looks like a muscle car to me.

 

I agree that there is a blind spot with the A-pillar. I am careful about it. But I also think the amount it blocks is negligible and that it is more of a psychological issue than physical issue. Still, I am careful about it. Check twice. In theory, some of the active driver assistance stuff, like front cross traffic warning, should help. I am careful about it.

 

Another question: Are Primes generally less reliable than the standard Prius? I was looking at the website Iseecars.com and they have a category for Most Reliable Plug-in Hybrid Cars and the Prime was 5th behind some fairly unreliable brands like Chrysler. Standard Prius was number one among hybrids. However, I did note that Consumer Reports rated the Prime one tick below standard Prius in reliability, but one tick higher in owner satisfaction - 2022 models.

over the years of prime, i don't recall seeing any more problems than the regular prius. maybe a stuck charging door, charging issue and etc that a regular prius couldn't have, but nothing major.

Iseecars doesn't explain how they score them. Then they have two different entries for the Pacifica; there is no separate hybrid and PHEV models of it.

 

I would not rely on that article to judge how reliable the Prime is. When you go to the website and click on the link for See how we rank these cars.., you will see that actual reliability is only 1/3 of the score they provide. Their "research" is proprietary so they don't share how they arrive at their ranking.
