I was cleaning up interior today and and came across a cover in the rear LH seat bottom, and behold- a scissor jack! why would a car with no spare need a jack? I would switch my summer to winter tires using my floor jack or the scissor jack from my other G4 Prius two. Helpful hack-a socket (1inch I believe, 1/2 inch drive) will fit over the eyelet of the scissor jack, then make use of impact gun or socket handle to raise and lower. Beats using the knuckle-scraping crank provided with the car.
If you're going to patch it on the spot, it's easier to do it with the tire off the car than still attached to it.
Interesting. Never had the opportunity to use goop. I think my wife had a flat once which I swapped the doughnut from my g4
There were probably concerns of the supplied goop pump getting overworked, or the incoming goop being blocked and pooling. So they supplied a jack to get the weight of the car off the tire. The lawyers might of had liability concerns over not supplying one too.
RTFM!! My CFO's car is a 2020, and we had a flat. Normally I'm one of those people that everybody hates that reads the owner's manual, and sorts out where the jack is, practices getting the tire out, etc. Well.... I had neglected to do this with her car for 2+ years. I had all the usual stuff (nitrile gloves, flashlights, mats, etc....) and I KNEW the car actually HAD a spare....AND a jack...but I had never verified that everything worked and I had to look up things like the jack points, etc. Everything worked out, but it took an embarrassing amount of time and effort to put the spare tire on the car. We just got a '23 replacement for my 2009 GMC Sierra. Same jack and location. Same for the spare tire. BUT(!!) I went through the motions anyway, just to make sure I could lower the spare, the jack rods were in place, etc....
I thought I read here that regular 5th gen Prius (also without spare) were not getting the scissor jack. Nor the lug nut wrench Maybe they've done a turn-around on that policy? If they're now supplying jack and wrench, and early buyers didn't get those, you'd think they should be contacted, supplied with such. Lotta conjecture I know.
The owner's manual has the "if equipped" line in reference to the jack in the flat repair section. I think they were supplying them in cars with a goo kit out of habit. Then someone saw how they could secure their bonus.
