I am hearing humming noise when driving 40-50 MPH speed , I was told by auto shop that noise is coming from my tires, per dealer rear wheel bearing are bad and another auto shop told me right rear wheel bearing is going bad. I did test myself but I did not find any play and I barely heard any noise on rear I have 99900 miles on my 2010 Prius, what replacements parts should I buy, OEM or Moog/Timken?
Whatever makes you happy for the money you spend there's a big hullabaloo going on over bearings.. so proceed with caution do your due diligence and see what happens I've been buying bearings for 40 years maybe a tab longer I've seen the decline in quality and I've also seen some very high quality Chinese manufacturers that can probably supply a lot of the Asian OEM and probably does I bought some wheel bearing some Chinese manufacturer for my generation 3 and was very surprised by the quality of the materials the assembly the smoothness all of it they're coated with some kind of semi-rustproofing that does work as their rotors on my car for 2 years now have not have one speck of rust on any part of this assembly so it's very tricky there are lots of fakes out there and a whole lot of funny business going on You have to sift through that mess and see what can happen I mean it's not a hard change out unless you're in a real rusty area in your car takes on that rust. But generally it's a very quick to do job I keep an extra set of hubs for Gen 2 and Gen 3 here loaded ready to drop on the car because I have so many of the cars now quite a few of them have not had their first set of wheel bearings yet and are all pushing 300,000.
Timken is best, Moog would be 2nd.... Does the noise change on different surfaces? Like a newly paved road?
You'll be changing that every 2-4000 miles..... You'll get real experience at changing them! trgq was good at one time, but not anymore. I purchased both front and rear hubs, replaced them 3 times in less than 10,000 miles. I was able to get Timkens for the rear
The one brand to be cautious about is anything that's supposedly OEM Koyo. (That's a link to my discussion.) YES, Koyo is the OEM wheel hub source for Toyota However, they NEVER sell to anyone but Toyota AND, someone apparently ripped off a huge pile of their previous-generation parts boxes. So someone may sell a hub that even comes in an "official" Koyo box. But it isn't actually Koyo. Bottom line: anyone willing to sell you a Koyo hub, is suspect in my book. (How to detect: the real ones have the brand and P/N etched in. And they have zero plastic.

I ended up using them. My rear passenger was the bad one. Bearing was making grinding noise, like there was sand in there. My MPG went down to mid 30s. Ended up replacing both. Wasn't too bad with the impact wrench. TRQ did have a nice video on how to do it. Took it for a test drive up to highway speed; nice and quiet as a prius can be. The MPG is climbing back into the 40s now too. We'll see how long they last.
