Never seen a Gen 5 on the road

I purchased my Prime two days ago and still have not seen another one on the road.

 

Oh yes same here, by the way the only Prius Prime 2023 I saw was on a Billboard Highway sign

 

Went to buy a new Camry hybrid and saw my first one

Almost forgot! Saw my 2nd Prius in the wild yesterday. It was a white one. Didn't notice the trim. Felt the same way as I did the last one I saw - "Wait! Is that the new PRIUS??".

 

No more Bolt ?

 

Well I know why I'm not seeing more 2023 Primes on the road... T-SB-0054-23 has them all sitting on dealership lots waiting for a backordered charger fan/sensor.

If you have a new Prime, you should look into it. Just a matter of "Prime" before you get the error message.

 

I'm guessing the new Bolt lead to the wife wanting a new Camry hybrid..

 

Saw my first one, other than mine on the drive into Salem last Sunday. We passed each other on the road. Guardian Gray.

 

Do you have a copy of the TSB? I tried looking it up but can't find it anywhere.

 

it's currently being built. nothing on the lots, and 6-9 months to order one. but i lucked out, and a dealer i had enquired with, let me know it was available.

 

bolt is on order to replace my pip. hybrid camry is for mrs b, and when we go to florida.
both our cars are over 10 years old, and i had planned to replace them when covid hit.
this is her third hycam, she absolutely loves everything about them.

I completed my set over the weekend when I saw a red one going the opposite way driving out to Provincetown. It looked darker to me than most photos. Overall, I think I like the Silver the best followed by Grey (which I own).

Was that done with the EV range depleted? Because it will slowly drain the battery if there's some EV range left.

Not at all. There's three ways you can make that trip that will each result in a different MPG figure:

1) EV fully charged. Just drive, it runs on EV, then the charge runs out and it auto-switches to HV.
2) EV fully charged. Press HV to drive in HV mode.
3) EV range zero. Car will run in HV mode.

In instance 1, the MPG will be based on 116 miles, not only the part you drove in HV mode when the EV ran out. A third to a half of your trip was power from the grid, so that number is going to be really inaccurate as mileage will be based on the percentage of the trip taken on pure EV.

Instance 2. The car will run entirely on HV mode, but it will slowly draw the EV range down. It'll turn the ICE off more often and run longer on EV. So for 116 miles, you might end the trip with 75% EV range. That results in a higher MPG because it's used some EV charge from the grid. It's my understanding that earlier generations will not do this, and once you press that HV button, the EV range will remain stable. But from experience, the Gen 5 will slowly run the battery down. (I kind of wonder if this might be the most efficient way to take a long trip.)

Instance 3. The car will run in "true" HV mode like a normal Prius. It will attempt to maximize MPG, but will keep the battery roughly even through natural regeneration. It's using the electric motor like a non-plug-in hybrid, but not using any charge from the grid.

I assume that’s because you can’t buy one. Toyota only had a small batch of them allocated to dealers and everyone put a deposit on one immediately. Everyone else has to keep their fingers crossed to get a chance to put a deposit on a 2024

 

It is an LE AWD hybrid, not a Prime idk how much battery it had to start, probably about half like it always is. But yeah, 70mpg is high enough that I can see why you would think it was the plug-in

 

My fault then! That's great mileage.
