2023 Prime: Let the wait begin...

Yipes!

I hope this waiting game gets better. I have the Prime on my list of potential next vehicles in a few years. But I wonder what would happen if my Avalon were totaled or stolen or such before that time. Would I have to go without a car for two years?!

 

So there are two of us here.

 

Longo Toyota has 700+ on the waiting list for Prius Prime and most of them are for XSE Premium. So far, only about a couple of dozen XSE Premiums have been allocated to the whole US. So, I conservatively estimate a three-year waiting period for you. You could get a limited-production Ferrari faster. LOL

 

It looks like the Hyundai Ionic Plug-In hybrid is available in Canada. I wonder what the wait time is on those.

I am writing the Prius Prime off my list of future vehicles to buy.

 

I thought the plug-in hybrid might still be sold in some parts of the world. I might be completely wrong.

I was just trying to figure out if there's an alternative to the Prius Prime. I guess not!

 

The Niro is probably the closest. The Escape if it doesn't have to be an actual car. Ford, Hyundai, and Kia also some larger SUV PHEVs.

If European makes are within budget, there is actually a fair selection of sedans. They might be more power hybrid though.

 

I was told that maybe November from my January deposit. Grabbed someone else's cancellation when it came up last weekend.

 

I put down a $500 deposit on a 2023 Prius Prime on May 22, 2022. Last week I was at the dealer an enquired about my order. I am 5th on the waiting list, and was told I might see my car near the end of 2023.

Oof the dealer I spoke to acted like the regular Prius and prime had comparable wait times. I take it that is extremely optimistic?

also once you put down a deposit are you committed to an indefinite wait or is there a reasonable period beyond which you can get your deposit back?

 

I believe you can “bail” at any time, be refunded your deposit.

 

Try working with a west coast USA dealer? You'll probably find one significantly sooner.

 

I ordered my 2023 Prius AWD Limited at the end of December and took delivery the first week of June. It was only the fourth Prius the dealer was able to deliver so far this year. They were notified that they would receive six more by the end of this year and that made ten the number they were allocated. They had orders for over thirty and were going to break the news to customers that they wouldn't be receiving one until 2024.

I've had mine for almost 2.5 months now and have not seen another one on the highway. On a side note, it was worth the wait.

 

I put down $500 on a Prime XSE Premier on July 22, 2022; was called on Aug 9, 2023 and told, "We have your car"! It didn't have the equipment I wanted. I was told I'm 58th in line back in June 2023. I think we're going to see these luxury models as 2024s; it's too close to the next model year now.

 

In Southern Calif, our dealers here are selling standard 2023 Prius. There appears to be a small trickle of Primes, but they are minimally equipped. Most dealers are tacking on BIG supplementary stickers too. I've been waiting over a year for my loaded Prime Premier (with no markup per dealer). The wait appears to be around 1-2 years out here. In California, at least, all deposits are FULLY refundable, per my experience (call sales for 23 years out here). I feel the car is totally worth the wait; my existing 2017 Prime Advanced is the most reliable and cheapest car I've ever owned, and it's FUN to drive. Electric-only range is currently 31miles (with the warmer weather). I love this car!!
