2023 Prius LE Problem

Seems like the same adjustments are available in 2023 (at least the Prime). The explanation in the manual is simplified (see Page 161 of the 2023 Prime manual):

Seems like the people whose displays dim when they turn the headlights on during the daytime have a fault in whatever sensor determines bright/dark around the vehicle.

 

Or they've got something covering the sensor. Seen it a few times on Customer States.../Just Rolled In.

 

That' probably more likely. It sounds like it is in dark mode all the time in the descriptions above.

 

My 2023 Prius Prime SE does the same thing with the audio is paused. It only allowed me to change the volume one time, but the rest of the time it does the same thing. I doubt it's our phone, but it sure is annoying. I asked them about it and they said use Amazon music instead....That was their solution.

 

I don't get it, I've never had an issue seeing any of the displays day or night. Both are adjustable to your liking so what's the big deal. Downgrade in every respect? Gas mileage? Really? My XLE ranges between a low of 55+/- to 70 or more on short trips. How is that a downgrade? Loss of space? For what? It's not a truck, but with the back seats down it can darn near haul like one. Now let's talk about looks, acceleration and handling. The 2023 goes from being a utilitarian lazy pig of previous Gens to being quite good looking and quick with precise handling. Downgrade, I think not! Sorry, don't like folks telling lies about my baby......

Going to take exception with the lazy pig comment. While many may have driven the car that way, the gen 2 through 4 had plenty of power and speed for how the majority drove. Those many may find the gen 5 power excessive, but it still manages near the same fuel efficiency has the gen4 with the XLE and Limited. While the LE is just a couple mpg worse than the old Eco.

The shift from utilitarian started with the gen4. I remember the dismay of losing the second glove compartment. Don't see how those looks can anything but an attempt at sporty. The gen5 just continues it. The real crime is in Toyota not bringing the Corolla wagon, and hybrid versions of all, to the North America.

 

I've had a Gen 2 and a Gen 4 previously. The big loss in capacity came between Gen 2 and Gen 3. That's where we lost the 2nd glove box and the drawer under the console. When I got a Gen 4 with no spare,tool storage capability around the spare tire under the hatch floor. was also lost/ In my Gen 2, I didn't need any auxiliary storage, but in the Gen 4, I needed to get a tool bag to keep in the hatch, denying me some cargo space.

I find the Gen5, for the most part, has increased space,. The glove box is roomier, enalbling to keep the complete manual set there (formerely relegated to the hatch.) I believe the console box is slightly smaller, but the #hiddencomparmtmet is good place to store extra cables and sunglaases (more space than the former roof compartment). When I need to charge my phone, I can put it in the slot (see note below abouit charging) My tools now all fit in the cutouts in the foam underneath the hatch floor with my emergency light & wrench set resting in the slit next to the floor. The only loss in the hatch is that the floor is higher and the cover is lower so that full-height shoppig bags cause a noticible bump.

Note: I've always found the Qi charge setup to be iffy with my MagSafe iPhone. Even when I get it lined up properly, it seems to overheat quite quickly, forcing charging to stop. However, it is easy to run a charging cable from the port in the console box along the grove to the slot and use more efficient wired charging.

 

What disinformation? I hardly ever post without being backed by solid data.

What is strange is you constantly not only self-praising your car but also wanting others to praise your car.

 

Well, you did cry about the new Prime's lower efficiency while completely ignoring the fact it has a bigger battery and much longer EV range that comes with it.

 

So, now, we need to talk about mpg/lb instead of mpg?

Besides, Toyota made no effort to improve the mpg of the Gen 5 Prius. An older and larger engine from the Corolla that was not redesigned for the Prius was used, with the emphasis being on the performance and looks rather than the mpg. In fact, larger wheels and tires aimed at improving the looks ate a big chunk of the fuel efficiency and BEV range. If you want fuel efficiency and BEV range, you are stuck with cheap-looking black wheel covers, matte black trim, no light bar, etc.

 

Bringing up a con while ignoring the pro that is the cause of it can be called lying by omission. Which addresses the misinformation claim.

That 'old' engine is newer and more thermally efficient than the one in the previous generation. So despite the larger wheels, worse aerodynamics, and extra weight, the hybrid XLE and Limited have the same EPA combined ,pg as the out going model. The Prime does suffer a reduction in efficiency from the 55% larger capacity battery, but it does get 56% more EV range for it.

The gen4 Eco trim had better fuel efficiency than the rest of the line up, but I don't recall you complaining about how that made your gen4 Prime suck.

 

My XSE does the same audio thing when I play daily Bible readings from SoundCloud. I have not seen it do it with anything else. And usually when it does that it blasts. I tried to change the volume on my phone, and it made no difference.

 

I am comparing the mpg of Gen 4 Prius Prime to mpg of Gen 5 Prius Prime.

M20A-FXS was introduced five years ago. A redesign happens every six years. You were complaining about the reuse of an older engine in Gen 5 yourself.

No one has been able to figure out why Prius Eco has a much higher fuel efficiency than Prius. It could even be a test error rather than an accurate result.

In other news:

My MPGs are steadily climbing as the car continues to break in. Last time I looked at my tank average it was around 65. To get that in this heat with the AC pretty much running solid is mind blowing. I have right around a half tank left and 350mi on the trip.

Also got annoyed a few times while driving the last few days and quickly erased the problem with the not-so-loud pedal. The issue was instantly in my rear-view mirror.

Then the other day I see this dude walking around it taking pictures. Really happy with my purchase decision.

 

Gen 3 still has the 2nd glove box. Took me several years before I noticed it lol.

 

Curious, how are you arriving at the "tank average" MPG? Thanks.
