My 2nd Gen. Prius has developed a couple bad cells in the traction battery. The car was neglected, unused, for a few months amd I believe this is the cause. I started it and now it drives okay but a couple of the cells need replacment. However the other day when I came out and tried to drive it the battery meter had one bar lit and it ran very poorly. I let it idle and charged the battery up a bit and it ran well but I didn’t take it too far. I have located someone a couple hundred miles away who can rebuild the battery and I am wondering it I should drive the car to him. It is mostly Interstate driving and I am guessing that the gasoline engine will power the car. I need to know if I risk damaging anything by doing this. Can anyone tell me if it is a good idea to drive 200 miles under this circumstance? Thanks for the advice. Michael
Fellow member @bisco recommends Leosons in Lawrence MA, 35 miles from Marblehead. https://leosons.com/services/prius-service-repair/ Also force charge the battery before you head out. NHW11 Traction battery autopsy | Page 5 | PriusChat
Replace the modules from a Gen 4 NiMH instead of refurbished modules. Eg: 2020 Corolla NiMH with 7401 miles. $1100 Gen 4 cells in a Gen 2 | PriusChat Gen 4 cells in a Gen 2 | Page 5 | PriusChat Gen 4 modules for Gen 2 pack | PriusChat Search Results
