My understanding is that its not too difficult to swap them out if you have basic skills, there are youtube vids on this…the more involved part from my perspective is that a high-end OBD device or the toyota techstream software (which can be used with a laptop & a $30 cable) is required to bleed the brake fluid systematically & calibrate the master cylinder …my research says it’s pretty straightforward (the software walks you through the steps), but I haven’t attempted it yet, im waiting on the parts and cable/software
Be sure the 12 volt battery is very well charged before you start, or support it with a 12 V power supply if you have one. Even if you're efficient and familiar with the process, getting through the long-form bleed procedure could take you 20 minutes or so, longer if it's your first time, and the car is IG ON the whole time, running down the battery. Sucks to have it conk out just this far from complete. ... so, also, remove the cowl for access to the stroke simulator bleed valve, before you start.
One can get them for under $600 each from an authorized Toyota dealer if they look hard enough. I've generally found Lewis Toyota and Serra Toyota to have the best online prices. It can be a bit of a gamble because (a) there is a good chance of contaminants (dust, lint, etc.) entering the donor assembly while it is being removed, thereby increasing the chances of premature failure, and (b) the donor assembly may very well be on its way to join the choir invisible even before removal.
I’ve changed the brake booster assembly, my brake lights are stuck on & can’t put it in “ready off” mode
Since my brakes lights are on, i cant start the car with ignition on but engine not starting…normally when you press the power button without pressing the brake pedal it will turn on in “ready off” mode
It was an issue woth the brake pedal sensor…fixed…now back to trying to bleed the brakes with techstream…
Now Im Getting code 1203 & 1345….i did the linear offset with techstream but heard nothing from the valves in the master cylinder/pump assembly…wondering if the new one is bad
When I attempt to do alinear valve offset, the abs/vsc lights do not blink, per techstream they should be, either techstream is not properly connecting or the new ABS is bad…
THAT WAS IT!!!!! After two days of work, that was the problem…thank you so much, you saved me hours or days of stress & frustration…THANK YOU MR F!!!!!!!!!
In my case it turned out to be an internal leak in the ABS assembly, probably due to the fact that I didn’t open the bleeder valves on the calipers when compressing the brake caliper cylinders…
Update: Issue has been fixed. I had the brake booster assembly replaced with a brand new one. I paid $1050 for the part+ labor.
