I have a 2018 Toyota Prius Four Touring. The fob has a red button that has an alarm and a lock/unlock button. Today while my car was locked, the window was broken and theft opened the door to break into the car. Should the car have a stock alarm? Should the alarm have gone off?
No. What you're thinking of is an extra "glass breakage sensor" that is sometimes offered as a dealer-installed accessory on some Toyotas. The standard Toyota "theft-deterrent system" is tied to the door locks and will only sound if the door locks are forcibly unlocked (or the door is forcibly opened).
Wait, so the factory fitted alarms in the US don't have ultrasonic sensors to detect motion inside the cabin?
I appreciate your response! That sounds ridiculous, so I'm not quite sure I understand the purpose of the alarm.
It’s for that one specific scenario where a thief would use a coat hanger or similar to unlock the door from the outside. It also does include an engine immobiliser.
I think that’s the main function. The fact that it’s partially associated with an alarm is a byproduct.
