Our Prius was smashed yesterday and it’s beyond repair. I’m beginning to part the car out and I’m curious about which parts I should try to salvage that are worth selling locally and on eBay. The first things that come to mind are the hybrid battery pack and catalytic converter. I’m going to attempt to pull the engine and transmission as well. ENGINE REMOVAL: I do not have an engine hoist. I’m hoping and get with a hydraulic jack or by just dropping it on the grass. Any other ideas or advise would be appreciated. -Adrian
Construction folks my fave. You can use a hydraulic jack put the car on jack stands use a half inch drive Milwaukee gun and blast off all the crossmember bolts. And take it all down from the bottom it'll just fall off your jack into the grass or the driveway then you can blast the transmission to drive axles the struts and all that off throw them into piles pretty much good to go but now your front end is sitting on the ground so when the people come to move the shell they're going to be dragging it across wherever you've done this your driveway for instance so you might want to be in the grass. Once the Prius is pretty well stripped like if you have good doors and door glass put the door glasses in the doors all the way down undo the bolts pins whatever take the doors off lean them up against the side of the building or put a stake in the ground and lean them up so they're standing up more or less may take a while to get rid of those The hood if it's in good shape if you have the aluminum hood that's at a premium price generally like $300 used easily if you've been replaced with the steel hood it's only worth about a buck and a quarter things like that your hybrid battery if it's not new or if it's rebuilt figure on about a third of the price of retail which right now is around 1517 so there's all of that Gen 3 Prius parts don't really bring much of a premium there's so many copies fakes and all that out there
An engine hoist, if I remember right, are only like $150 at the auto parts store. I would get one to make your life a lot easier removing the engine. Interior parts are very salvageable and would be good to part out.
First off, sorry to hear of the loss. Definitely sucks. There a very specific "part" that I'd like to purchase -- and I would be glad to pay MUCH over what it's worth . I need just the small nylon pull tab that is used to pull up the floor/cover in the back to access the storage area underneath and the tire area. I've circled it in the first picture from the inside of the car attached. The second picture show the Phillips screw that holds it from the bottom side (tire area side). Long story, but with my stealth camping, I go through these like water as I rip through the nylon by the screw. I am always looking to have a standby. Shipping is simple since it fits into an normal envelope. Name your price!! View attachment 242296
