I’m interested in starting the Ice and having it stay on until I have reached my destination or at least disable the HV battery and the MG from operating in EV mode. I have read about the maintenance mode but some post warn about driving in this mode. I would still like the regenerative system to charge the battery as needed. Gen-2 car
I suppose you might accomplish something close to that by spoofing the battery temperature sensors extra high, so that battery charge and discharge limits would be reduced. This kind of thread, where a rather odd question comes out of the blue without the motivation for it, sometimes can be hard to answer in a really useful way. Reducing the battery use, of course, will be accompanied by more frequent higher loads on the engine.
I was thinking about simulating a cold battery temperature to prohibit EV mode. I have a deteriorated HV battery and mainly use the car for highway trips, so primarily interested in the HV battery starting the Ice only.
Wonder if the OP realizes that disabling the HV battery would result in absolutely pitiful acceleration from a stopped condition? Just like trying to drive when in limp mode. Probably end up being rear ended if driving in any type of normal traffic patterns. Going up a hill at less than highway speed? Plan on a million rpm and the car still slowing down. Wonder if the AC would function? You could probably make the engine stay on, if not all the time maybe most of the time, by turning the cabin heat on maximum and keep the windows down.
Well, that just don't work that way. The hybrid control ecu is programmed to use the HV battery pretty much any time you press the accelerator pedal. There may be very little discharge or charge once you reach a steady cruising speed, but you need battery power to get there. Posted via the PriusChat mobile app.
