Why? To remain competitive with other manufacturers who don't qualify for the US tax incentive for EVs but who are using the "loophole" in the EV incentive legislation to get onto a level playing field. And, I think there is a fairly rapid softening in the car market, both new and used. My recent Prius Prime XSE was purchased at $1k below MSRP. Bought off the lot, no pre-order, following a one week search for a 2023 Prime (I decided I wanted this car third week of June). I think the number of buyers willing to pay over MSRP is dropping quickly as people realize the market is changing.

You must be the first person on earth to have bought a 2023 Prius under MSRP. Congrats!

The lease company buying the car gets a $7500 tax credit. Toyota here is finally passing on some of that to the customer. Others are already doing so. Toyota delayed doing this with the Rav4 EV too.

My brother-in-law is looking for the 2023 Prius Prime at MSRP or even better below MSRP. Where is this dealership?

    Thanks

Nearly all of us who got our cars at "MSRP", paid for at least some dealer addons.

Maybe to move it on last day of quarter. Or maybe I got a lemon. But I don't think so based on first two weeks

MSRP was $39,004, base model XSE of $35,600, with optional equipment of $2,010: glass roof, weather mats, digital key, 12.3 inch screen; and $1,095 delivery fee and $300 port charges. So maybe those are the dealer add ons you are thinking of.

I'm just glad I got the car. I needed a car and love it!

The overall new car market might be changing, but there is still the massive supply shortage specifically for the 2023 Prius, and with this being a brand new generation, I can't imagine that the 2023 Priuses are ever going to stop flying off the lots, if not being presold. At least not until they start manufacturing more Priuses for the US. I feel like there is a bottleneck of current Prius owners like myself who bought during peak Prius sales years 2010-2013 who are all looking at the 5th gen as a possible upgrade, but there are 90% fewer units available now than there were then. So even if the overall market starts going below MSRP, the 2023 Prius prices are going to be among the last to fall

Maybe it's just because people are getting so much in trade that they don't need the loan.

Just kidding. Mostly. But I did come away with a car and a check(because I was trading in two vehicles).
