Recently, I was leaving a Hilton hotel with 2 passengers and the right rear tire went into a pothole, this bottomed out the rear of my 2011 Prius and I did not know it of course until I was on the interstate (I75 in Florida) headed home. I heard a tapping noise, I looked in my right rear view mirror and I could see the cause of that noise. The wind could get underneath the rear bumper cover now and it peeled it back as far as it could go and was hitting the car making that tapping noise. I pulled off at the next exit, inspected it and secured it the best that I could with electrical tape for the rest of the 24 minute ride home. I now have it secured better with shipping tape until I can get it fixed the right way.
My question is does anyone know of the best way to fix this? It looks to me like the entire bumper needs to come off to fix this. It is part 52575 on the attached illustration.

    thanks,

    Rideshare Sean

I have had this vehicle since 2016. I have the oil changed in her every 2 weeks. If you go to my website and look at the maintenance log. You can see, she has a few miles on her.

Under the Gen III section, look for for "modifications", there is a complete write up on what we all have done to secure the rear bumper.

Is there a link in your post?

You maybe should get the car on a lift, or at least jack up the rear, to check for more damage. That sounds more like a missing manhole cover than a pothole, lol.

Changing the oil every 2 weeks that seems like extreme overkill keeping the oil back clean It wouldn't allow it to seemingly ever pick up any of the byproducts of the engine and put them in the filter But hey I used to have free oil and free avgas at my disposal at the airport and I did use it a bit I wouldn't say I was changing my oil every 2 weeks even in my heyday of mass amounts of driving 2 weeks would have been right about 1K to 1500 mi in that time . Back in those days I felt it hardly worth it even for free to be running the oil in and out of the ice that fast but hey what do I know have at it seems costly though especially in this day and age and I wouldn't think at the end of the day you would be creating any extra longevity considering the Gen 2 engine is not really an oil burner and the reason the Gen 3 is is because of very poor piston rings wrapped around your slug
