Dealer "tested everything" and cleared the codes, so I'll probably be going back when the warnings come back, will update when that happens.

Well, I took mine in yesterday and they replaced a wire that they said was the cause of the problem. They had to remove an airbag so it took about 3 hours. Did not provide paperwork and they promised it would be emailed and I’m still waiting. We shall see if this fixes the problem and I will share further info as soon as I get the paperwork.

The error has not returned so far after the replacement wire. Fingers crossed.

I also got this message after 2 weeks of ownership on July 4th. Took it in to Toyota and was told similar thing that there is no remedy and there is a case open. I was told it a failure of fan component that cools plug-in charger. The service supervisor told me I can still charge but it will stop charging when it overheats. That didn't sound safe to me so I got a second opinion from the service manager who said he didn't recommend charging for now which I haven't in almost 2 more weeks. I was also told the fix could sometimes be a software update or a physical component replacement or repair.

    • So I can only tell you that in my experience it would always charge to 100%, it never seemed to overheat despite the message. The first time I took it in to the dealer I was given the same vague and uncertain solution to the error. By the second time I took it in with a slightly different error message and got the same uncertain answer to the fix I contacted Toyota corporate head office and I told them that it is completely unacceptable to allow me to drive a car with undiagnosed error messages without a resolution or a timeline for the fix. That seemed to get their attention because the next day I was asked to bring it in for a through diagnostic (and it just so happened that the error message came on yet again) and the dealer identified the wire as the issue after opening a case with Toyota Corporate.

Latest update; they had the car for 4 days. I told them to check this thread, they opened a case with TAS, and told me to pick the car up today. No resolution. Guess I'll report back in a few weeks when it happens again.

In the meantime, I'll be researching lemon laws in my state.

My prime has been in the shop this morning. The service advisor called and told me to avoid using the factory portable charger at home and to go to a charging station to avoid the system malfunction check engine light?

I contact Toyota and was told this is a new update for the prime:

    TSB-0041-23

Sucks that we can’t depend on the portable factory charger at home without updating to a level 2…

is everyone getting the same response thats having the same issue?

I used a level 2 charger about 95% of the time and I got the error message each time after using a level 2 charger

That TSB has nothing to do with the charging system. It's a notification of a software update for the infotainment system if the owner is having problems with it rebooting or flickering.

Amazing that they already have multiple versions when they’ve made so few cars

It's the same infotainment system that's used in all the newest Toyotas. I didn't quote the full thing, but the same TSB applies to the GR Corolla, the Venza, and all the RAV4s. And new software versions are pretty common. I'm guessing the only reason there's a TSB for this issue instead of just letting the auto-update take care of it is because the rebooting/not booting issue might keep the head unit from being able to complete the update on its own.

That being said, there are actually two versions of the 2023 Prius. The first batch was built from Dec 2022 through Mar 2023. The current batch is from Mar 2023 onward. I don't know exactly where the cutoff point is or what exactly the differences are, but there must have been enough changes to require someone to select which one they're working on when using the tech and parts software systems.

I wonder if the problem is connected to the recall Toyota just put out on a bunch of 2022 and 2023 models(though not the Prius yet).

    https://www.wpxi.com/news/trending/recall-alert-110k-toyota-lexus-vehicles-recalled-due-air-bag-issue/X466UZR74NEGDLXYJVPDX7U5SY/

Maybe Toyota had a problem in the manufacturing of this one part. On some models, it affects the air bag; in others, it affects communication with the plug-in system. (maybe depending on which terminals were improperly welded)

    Just a thought.
