It can also go blank when the hatch is slammed. But when its off, thumping the dash with a closed fist or firmly closing the hatch makes it turn on. It also randomly goes off and back on without any bumps or vibrations happening. Steering wheel controls work and the radio can be turned on when the MFD isn't working. If there's any possible cause other than needing to spend $300 on sending the MFD off to be fixed, that would be nice. I put a new Optima yellow top battery in because the self diagnostic showed voltage below what it should be in all circumstances, with the best being 14.1V with engine running and lights off. Turn the lights on and it'd drop to 14. New battery is within the right range at all times. Made no difference in how the MFD isn't working all the time.
Most likely a broken solder joint on one of the MFD circuit board connectors. There is a writeup about it somewhere here, i took mine apart and to the local computer repair shop and they reflowed the entire surface mount connector its been fine ever since. SM-G960U ?
It's not $300 The replacement from the guy in Texas is like 150 exchange for your old one I think. And then to put it in it's not that big of a deal if you're reasonably careful you'll need a screwdriver and maybe a 10 mm wrench socket and that's about it most everything pulls off carefully and then pretty much to change the heads up display or the speedometer is just a Phillips screwdriver carefully unplug the stuff all the plugs will be dangling right where they need to be when you set the new one on your frame it's very simple If you can put a video card in and working a computer case this should be a breeze
This guy in Texas? https://priuschat.com/members/127746/ No contact info there. If you mean this shop https://www.texashybridbatteries.com/prius-repairs there's no listing on the site for MFD repairs. Combination meter repair is listed at $275.
It is $150 plus a $75 refundable core deposit (refunded when you return the old one) so, a total of $225 initially. But, you're right, there is no MFD repair listed.
I don't care if they repair it or send me one that works either way they've done their thing . I guess this does or does not include putting your mileage back on the thing but I think that's stored in your car so that's really not a thing possibly?
