I do love my Prius for all the reasons most of you do but I never really fit in it. I'm 6'3" and have driven trucks most of my life and am used to a lot of front seat room. I've read all the posts and looked into modifying the bracket as some of have done, but I couldn't find any resources in SoCal to do it. I finally just bit the bullet and on the advice of my brother-in-law (a real car guy) I ordered Recaro Sport seats (black and grey suede - manual). They were kind of expensive (about 900 each) but I have to say that I am totally pleased with the result. I have never owned a vehicle where I didn't have to put the seat ALL the way back - until now. There is such a huge difference in seat height (it's much lower) and position that it's like an all new car. It's worth the money to me since I believe a comfortable driver is a safe driver - or at least a happier one!

I got the seats from AMS (Advanced Motorsport Solutions) in Carson and they did a great install -- they put in my Tom's braces and Sportivo suspension too. My car was being worked on next to a big Evo turbo upgrade project, but the Pruis was getting all the attention!

How comfortable are they, aside from the height change? Do they have good lumbar support, etc?

kyaa! thats hotness. Looks like they'll hug the driver nicely. I'm assuming the side airbags aren't there anymore? I love how well it matches your interior! Did you also get ur center console and doors wrapped in leather there?

That's what I'M wondering. I'm 6'-5" and fit ok, but I wouldn't mind haveing lumbar support model seats for my spouse, but loosing ANY safety feature as a tradeoff makes me cringe big time.

What about the back seat? Do they match?

As a follow up ... these seats do have adjustable lumbar support which is great - but the real difference is the seating position which puts your butt lower than your thighs. It's really comfortable and the wings/supports give you a very secure feeling. You do lose the side airbags, though..

Here's another photo of my car being worked on next to the Evo!

I've heard someone else in a post about Recaro seats saying that the addition of bolster or side supports on the Recaro seats may overcome the need for side airbags, which I would agree with if that were the case. However, doesn't the driver's side airbag deploy from the A-pillar? Then the side airbag in the seat deploys to the rear for back seat passengers? Correct me if I'm wrong, but if that's the case then all you are doing by removing the side airbag in the seats is reducing side impact protection from back seat passengers?

The side curtain airbag basically covers the windows – front and back. The bag built into the front seats deploy forward and provides further protection in the area not covered by the curtain. The rear seats do not have this extra protection.

Those seats seem to fit the Prius's overall appearance better than the stock seats.

May I ask how much they charged for the seat install?
