Alright. My wife's pretty stoked about getting to Old Orchard for some shopping. We'll go early and make the rounds. I might bring her to the meet-up but she's not exactly excited about that part. We'll have to see. But currently you will see me there.
<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE(TonyPSchaefer @ Nov 23 2006, 11:05 PM) </div> Well my hubby *is* pretty excited to go to another Prius meet up. Thanks FireEngineer for the heads-up.
Only 3 more shopping days until the Chicago Hybrid meet-up. And Old Orchard is only a few minutes away for that last minute gift, Tony's wife will be leading the mall shopping tours during lunch. Wayne
Just got back from the meet-up and a few errands on the way home. I'm going to post some pictures and then add the names. We had, I think, 14 people show up. There were Prii there and one each of an Insight, Escape Hybrid, and a HyCam. Todd showed up with his converted plug-in Prius. As you can see in the picture, he sacrificed the spare.
Thanks to everyone who showed up. I finally learned how to really "pulse and glide", and received more technological information than I could ever absorb on the plug-in hybrid. I am also profoundly grateful to Wayne who near bled to death to get my engine block heater installed! I found myself humming Helter Skelter watching this poor guy!! And just when I thought we'd rush him to the ER, he installed insultation in my grills to keep the engine from losing heat quickly. Wayne, I can't thank you enough. I hope you regain consiousness soon. Thanks all! -Steve "PsyPrius"
OK, I couldn't seem to get pictures to post to the gallery so I put them on the ChicagoPriusGroup site - which is where they were going to end up anyway. Check them out at: http://www.geocities.com/chicagopriusgroup/ (It's under "Photo Albums") Sometimes soon I hope, we'll have our own domain name and a dedicated server so you won't get the Geocities pop-ups.
Tony and the rest of the Chicago Group, congrats on a successful meeting. I have heard from a few people who said it was really a great time! Thanks for making this meeting a reality!
<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE(efusco @ Dec 11 2006, 08:00 AM) </div> Yeah Evan- We needed your medical expertise there, as Wayne was bleeding to death intalling my block heater. As a psychologist, I was able to help him with the psychological trauma of the situation!
What great fun! Thanks certainly to Wayne for notifying me of the meeting & then going to the trouble of bringing a gadget to address my 12 volt battery concerns (now if I only had a place to plug it in!). His performance in the bitter & I mean bitter cold parking lot installing the block heater for Steve was a true act of love. When I think about it, it was Wayne who stood outside (OK, he had a tent but still...) in the blistering heat at Danny's meet-up to show others his tricks to increase mileage. And thanks to Tony - quite a patient guy - as I probably talked his ear off at lunch. Plus I totally love the Chicago Prius Group site he put up! Another example of how the Prius passion manifests itself. Additional thanks to Mark who showed my husband & me how the Prius nav system works on the Camry hybrid. Don't know which I enjoyed more, the nav system or getting out of the biting cold. It was certainly fun seeing Mike again & getting to meet his son. Plus there were new people I met but didn't really have time to talk to at any length. Tony, can our next meet-up will be in more clement weather or at least inside? I'm still thawing out. <_<
What a great meet! Different hybrid's present; Civic I Hybrid, Escape Hybrid, Insight, Camry Hybrid, Classic Prius and 4 Gen II Prius. And there was an Accord Hybrid in the parking lot. Special thanks to Todd for bringing his PHEV out to show. Only sorry I couldn't spend more time going over it. But I know Todd will be at the Elgin Alternative Fuel Vehicle Expo this summer (hint, hint everyone) so I may have to take some time off showing my car to do some more digging into his. The block heater install went well I think. Steve did time me and the actual heater was less than 5 minutes, cord connect about 5 minutes (first drop the cord got hung up) and the routing to the grill was close to infinity. Thanks Toyota for some minor changes to the car bottom and radiator shrouds, threw me for a good loop, but I can fix that later. And now up to Milwaukee this weekend for group installs!! And Tony really did take a good picture of me "expressing" myself during the install. Wayne Oh, by the way, it was only a flesh wound. Does anybody have an extra pint of type O handy?
After this Saturday in Milwaukee I might need 4 quarts of 0W20 with all the block heater installs going to be done. Wayne
